Need options to mount my PS steering pump lower

Thanks everyone for your input.

Looking like I may have a solution. The stock bracket is two pieces. The bracket that stays stationary and bolts to the water pump in two places, used the lower bolt hole position and bolted that to the upper position on the water pump. This let the PS pump rotate because there is just one bolt there now, and go much lower. This position is great, for flow and to get my reservoir lower to clear the hood. Still need to make it where it is a three bolt mount like the original. I think I'm going to weld another piece onto this bracket and go back to the lower water pump bolt, I'm sure it was there for a reason and the best place for that third mount. I need to do something with the oil pressure sending as it is in the way of my high pressure out of the pump. Need to figure out what belt size I need and where to order custom sized belts.

Sorry about the picts not being rotated correctly. Still trying to figure that out also.

There is another duplicate thread that I meant to delete a while back. Rookie mistakes.

Well.................... this won't work. The feed port needs to be above the arc of the body of the pump so air cannot get trapped in the pump body. I started to think about this and I confirmed it with PSC.

Probably because I had the picts rotated. :)
Resurrecting this old thread. What did you end up doing to mount the PSC reservoir?

I’m having the exact same problem with the Wild Horses Hi Volume Pump Kit which includes a 8.25” PSC reservoir. I don’t think it is possible to mount the included reservoir and provide enough gravity without it sticking through the hood or lowering the pump.

Not sure how Wild Horses intended this kit to work. The photo in their instructions shows a much smaller reservoir mounted to the firewall. Here is a link to those instruction: https://s3.amazonaws.com/cdn.wildhorses4x4.com/downloads/WH/2071 07-23-18.pdf

Curious what anyone else ended up doing.

Thanks!

Can I restate (w/o offending) that if you mount a ps reservoir to the firewall you are literally ASKING for issues. Don't care if a major parts supplier says you can do it. Just don't do it. I know, somebody's done it and it works but they are the exception and I can bet they never crawl with it. Send it back, go to PSC or buy a pump bracket that will let it sit lower so all your problems will be solved.

My pump is low and my reservoir is mounted next to my radiator with the lid within 1/4" of the hood so you can eliminate: possible hose collapsing, long feed (suction hose), eliminates any high rpm issues created by friction losses with small hoses, eliminates potential suction issues due to the reservoir not being mounted high enough above the pump.

Didn't Lars mention about 20 posts ago to mount a different reservoir on the fender as an option?

Yep. Appreciate you restating that. PSC wants it as close to the pump for the reasons you stated and I don’t want issues when I’m out wheeling.

I already fab’d a bracket to mount it about 1” from the radiator, like yours. But even with the top of the reservoir touching the hood, the outlet is ~1.5” below the pumps inlet, junk!

I’m not aware of an available bracket that could lower the pump. I will check with PSC on Monday, but it’s looking like all have to go Explorer Serp to get this set up correctly.

Thanks for your help!

Well Brian, I guess I’m that guy who has made it work hahaha. And you know that I do crawl with this thing!

Buuuuuut…. to make it work, I had to go to the Exploder dress and use this bracket for the pump since it mounts it really low. Not possible with a stock V-belt setup. I had to cut a notch in the rear hood support to clear the vent fitting on the rezzy as well. That was with a stock hood. Not a problem with the Pro Flow hood I have now. I also have a 2” BL so there’s an extra 2” of vertical separation between the pump and rezzy.

I also found a different rezzy that I’m thinking about trying. It looks like it may be a bit shorter than the PSC that I have now.

After looking at the Explorer serp swap, I may wait on that. I spent too much getting new v-belt stuff, and way past return policies. Doh!

I think I‘ll fab a bracket that would put the reservoir just above the pump. I may need to get a shorter reservoir, though. PSC makes a 7.25”, the reservoir in the Wild Horses kit is 8.25”. Or buy a 6” one from Lee Power Steering, but no integrated filter, this one may actually work on the core support next to the radiator.

This from Lee’s: https://leepowersteering.com/collec...-3-inch-x-6-inch-10-male-outlet-6-male-return

Post all of your v-belt stuff for sale and go exploder serp. My only regret in going that direction is that I didn’t do it sooner.

Correct Tim, but your pump isn't mounted up high like the instructions for the OP require. That's how I can say that it shouldn't be mounted there.

Also, when crawling up slopes for 3-5 minutes at a time that can make a difference but that hasn't been mentioned prior to now- just pumps mounted high, with reservoirs mounted on the firewall. Your setup works )because you don't have your's setup that way) but it isn't the OP's suggested or W/H's suggested mounting locations. :)

But what on mine is like the instructions suggest? 😂🤣
