Scott, great write up. sounds like a bunch of heroes and no zeros. After so much work and preparation you pulled it off. Takes a special guy to pull it off. kudos to you.

Dollars or Pesos or a big sack of both? Your wife as translator what would you have done without her. Great to take a trip like this with your best friend. Now you have to have a reunion with these guys every 5 years.

Great trip and Thank You for taking all of us with you.

I recommend Pesos when traveling South. No ambiguity or questioning conversion rate that way. One of our Chase guys is a local from Ensenada, but doesn't speak English well. The other is from El Paso and speaks perfect English/Spanish. My wife wouldn't consider herself bilingual, but she was magic at the checkpoints and a few other places. Definitely a group of strong, strong team players!

Looks like your team had great support. Would have been a very different trip without them. Long distances on the end of a strap sure isn't any fun for the tower or the towee. That support crew earned their keep. Just damn good planning. Hats off to them.

There's been a lot of mention of SOLO Sports. Here's the deal. It's a world renown Kite Surfing place on the Pacific coast in Punta San Carlos. I had seen pics of it and thought it would would be a cool stop for us. The real problem with it is that it was VERY expensive - in fact, our most expensive night of the trip -- and we weren't there long enough to do anything but grab a tent in the dark, eat dinner, grab breakfast and head out. They have other things like mountain biking, etc.. and are all inclusive, but it's just not a good fit for a trip like ours. And personally, I'm beyond not having a hot shower and a decent place to do my morning business. SOLO had neither. But if you are a surfer, kite surfer, mountain biker and like to rough it, it's probably a good fit if you can stay a few days. I personally wouldn't put it on the itinerary again, but I'm not sorry we did it. This trip was an adventure, and SOLO helped make our trip what it was. Here's a pic.

My wife and I had to take separate tents, which was totally fine since we went to bed at lights out and had to lickety-split to the border the first thing in the am anyway. I had to laugh when we went to bed and I heard her start cracking up in the tent next to me. I asked her what was so funny and she said that just after getting comfortable in her sleeping bag it occurred to her that since they barely had a shower (it was a standard solar shower from Big 5) and there were no other facilities anywhere, there was NO WAY those sleeping bags were ever cleaned LOL! I could just picture some surfer dude out late in the waves, peeing in his suit, too tired to even mess with a solar shower, crawling into the bag I had ;D

I have more questions than answers.
^^^There's a image to help you sleep. Glad your wife could laugh about it.

I have to say I've used a solar shower many times in the back country. Been happy for that. Instead of TP I pack baby wipes. Much better when a daily shower may not be available. Plus you can wipe your hands and face at other times. Had to clarify that with this crowd....

Is that Scorpion Bay? Looks pretty bleak. I'm with Coach, I need a hot shower, coffee and a decent night sleep. Decent banyos is a plus as well. No doubt I prefer the Sea of Cortez to the Pacific side though I'd really like to see the whales some time.
I'm also liking the idea of a few, maybe 3-4 stops with nice facilities and local day trips to see missions, etc. Central Baja has it all.

It's WAY North of San Juanico. Punta San Carlos. E. Coast of the peninsula is definitely my fav. The place we stayed at while in BOLA was terrific! Very pleasant surprise! I could have stayed there a couple of days, for sure.

What was the name of the place in BOLA?

Los Vientos. New owners (nice couple) bought it about 2.5 yrs ago and completely overhauled it. The husband worked in the states for Hyatt for 20 yrs, so he knows the deal. Right on the beach, Awesome bar, good food, rooms were nice and the place is secluded and very safe. If this place were anywhere else you'd be paying 3-5x the price of their rooms. Here's a few pics.

Also -- They let me use their garage area to pull my bronco into and break my 3rd member open for a peek. They also loaded all of our coolers with ice before we left for no charge. I'm pretty high on these guys (as you can tell) and hope they do really well!

I think we stayed there for NORRA in 2010. It was decent but not that nice! Really looks like a nice place now.
