I have an opportunity to purchase this unknown year Bronco. The fellow selling it has had it in his garage for 15 years or so and cannot currently remember the year. I did drive it and it was not running well at all but drove fine. It has a lot of patch work and body rust and the frame was poorly painted but I didn't see and severe rust on frame. He is asking 13,500.00, I am planning on finding one and just purchasing a new tub so body rust is not really a concern. The back seat is missing, tires are good, soft top is fine, dash has radio cut out modified, it is an automatic, 3" lift and power steering was added. Any thoughts on price for this one? It seems a bit high but I have only been looking for about 3 months. Its hard to believe that I purchased my original 77 sport for 3K back in 89. Thank you for your input.

In todays market the price sounds about right for a running driving bronco. Even if it is full of rust. As long as the title, and frame vin all match!

Yeah prices are still crazy got my 1967 in 2005 for $2,200. Who knew the prices would go so crazy!

Year should be on the title, assuming he has the title??

lol and i was assuming he didn't have the title or otherwise it would be that easy, right? what else is salvageable on it? you mentioned you're going to get a new tub... new panels too? there's a sweet spot with these. pay too much and end up throwing all the body and components away... vs starting with just a frame and VINs. the axle hubs look clean. did he rebuild the running gear?

I was referring to replacing the entire body when I said "tub" so I would have about 30K in it right out of the gate. I do not believe that the running gear has been rebuilt as he did not mention it. As far as salvageable parts, it would just be front seats, dash and instruments, steering column , wiper motor assembly , exhaust system needs replaced as well.

The VIN looks like a U15GLS.... if I'm seeing that right. Without one of the experts, I'd say it's a '73 or '74 based just on that.
Other visual clues put it after '73 as well, so a good chance.
Price seems high for how it looks. Certainly incomplete...
Even in today's market, I'd say less than 10k unless there's other stuff that comes with it that makes it more worthwhile?

Make sure it's still got a Dana 44 front end. And a big-bearing version of the 9" rear end would be more desirable, though not a deal-breaker by any means.
Power steering would have been an option, so it might have factory power.

Also, a '73 would have had a "Certification Label" (It has an official name, but not sure if that's the correct one or not) on the driver's door pillar. If it's still there and not painted over or removed (why do people do those things!) then that would tell you when it was built and for what year. And be more clearly laid out. Obviously the glove box "warranty plate" has been painted over, so the other decal may have been as well.

I agree that price seems high, problem is, I approached him about purchasing it. He is not advertising and seems he doesn't mind it sitting around. I believe he has not had it inspected in almost 20 years. I mentioned in another post that he is asking 10K for the 73 that he has in a shed that is much worse than this one and hasn't been moved in 20+ years. I guess I will keep looking... I do appreciate everyone's input.

Yeah, I can’t blame someone in today’s market for hoping to get top dollar for something.
Lot of these do sit for a long, long time without selling, however. But as long as some of them sell for big bucks, people always hold out hope.
At least that’s what many think.
You can probably find one for 20,000 that’s a runner with a lot less rust. In fact, there are some $25,000 Broncos out there that are practically ready to go with no work at all.
Good luck in the hunt!

If I were buying a new body, I would probably just buy an aftermarket frame and build it assuming your budget can absorb the cost. Current build cost doing your own work is easily in the >30k range.

I will be doing my own work but I would not feel comfortable starting from scratch. Maybe if I had a couple under my belt , I would go that route!

Came across this the other day - seems pretty reasonable when compared to my build expenses thus far.. https://inventory.maxliderbros.com/vehicles/341/1972-ford-bronco
