Problems with second gear

I have the stock 3 speed in my 77 with the exception that I converted it to floor shift about a year ago. About a week ago, when I put it into 2nd gear it would kick out of gear. I thought maybe was linkage, but I can put it into 2nd and try to force it to stay in and it kicks out so hard that I cant even hold it in gear. Have any of you guys had this happen, is my trans gone bad???? Any help here would be appreciated. Would be a good time to upgrade to a 4 or 5 speed, but money is too tight right now.

I would look at the throw stop adjustment on the shifter. It limits how far the lever moves forward and back. Sometimes they loosen up.

you may also want to recheck the linkage adjustments. Worst case a synconizer is going out which will let it pop out of gear when they go bad.
