Project #longhorse all the hrs in.
Driveline set in place, cross member installed. #609 set in place, to the best of my ability. Centered and sitting at hoped for ride height. I’m not sure how I’m going to set up the steering, but most of my clearances seam good? Then I pulled a tape and realized that I have it setting at 115” wheelbase, which is cool, but maybe a bit too far. I’m shooting for 111”
Trying to set the axle centered and square is really freaking hard by yourself, in case you were wondering.

Lotta progress! But yes, looks like you'll be better off with the front end moved back a bit. Seems from here like your pitman arm is going to hit the tie-rod even with the gearbox moved forward like it is.
Definitely "a thing" and definitely something to keep in mind when laying it all out.

I figured out how to center and square the front axle, got some assistance and set the axle to the best of my ability where I think it should go. @111” wheelbase plus or minus and inch. Set at hoped for ride height = minus 3” from previous built height.
Steering looks jammed up and I have only 2” available of my target 4” inches at this ride height.
Looks like I’m going to have to make my front links 75% of my rear links because of packaging constraints. Unless I stick my upper link bracket above the frame? Trying to keep front links equal length-ish. I think high steer is out, they are just too high. Probably going to have to shave my truss too.

I think the lens makes it out to be more than it is, but thank you.
I have some OCD and this is the best way to harness it, I also have an understanding wife who allowed me to kick her YJ out of the two car garage and allows me to spend all my “free time” on my projects. I’d love to indoctrinate my kids, but they aren’t very interested yet…

I have seen some guys move the front cross member too. I think that may give you a little breathing room, I know we have talked about this but I think there’s another guy that moved his steering to the driveshaft side too. Maybe a thought.

I’m definitely going to shave my cross member flat with the bottom of the frame. That should give me just enough room. That or I need to move my axle forward a few three inches, but 115” just feels too long.
By driveshaft side, do you mean run the steering box inside the frame? Maybe so- Jeep steering boxes are pretty easy to come by.

I have a Jeep TJ box on mine, with 30” between the frame rails. It eats up 5-1/2” of radiator space. If it wasn’t for the custom frame no way it would work. That being said a JK one might work, I know one from a right hand drive would work nicely.

Interesting. I thought they sat low enough and at an angle to not be an issue. The JK box is more like the a mirror of the Bronco box, so that's a good point.

Is that like a mail truck? What's the ratio? I'm wondering about a full hydro set up. And Gordon was the guy I mentioned with the steering on the pinion side.

Yes a mail truck. No idea on the ratio, test drive a JK and see if you like it, they both are the same. PSC stocks the right hand drive box, or did last I checked.

Funny you mentioned Gordon’s behind the axle steer. What a massive pain to package, right down to the custom oil pan. There is a reason he won’t do that for a customer. It works and is protected but it’s in the way of everything.

I owned and wheeled a JKU, this is the reason that I am concerned with going too far beyond 111”, that Jeep got high centered on the stupidest things.
It steered well enough, considering it was so long and had 37’s on a stock box.

Two things....

1-Have you seen the fab work that Hinmaton is doing? LOL Oil pan and crossmember need to be addressed no matter what in my opinion.

2- You think my mail man will let me take his ride for a quick spin? Is that a federal offense? LOL

Project #longhorse some more hrs in.

Pushed my front axle forward 2” for better clearance- that puts me at 114” wheelbase. Got my Barnes4wd 3Link brackets in. I’ve got it all mapped on the link calculator and it looks good. I shaved my front cross member and tacked in the HD Trac bar mount I’ve been hanging onto for a few years and the WH4x4 adjustable 4130 Trac bar I had. Looks like this might work.
Let it be said, this is not easy- definitely pushing my own limits.

I'm going to say this again.....LOL

"When your everything is close to your everything, and never kiss, it is perfection"

things being tight and close is where the art comes in. Anyone can put everything in a giant box.
