Sounds vacuum-leaky. That what I have had with a fast idle. But it was not intermittent like your case. Still another thing to look over though. Or a fuel line sucking air occasionally.

I'm told the cheap gas causes sludge in the iac...try cleaning

Yeah, there is also an adjuster plate you can get for the IAC that allows more or less air in before or after it.

Made a world of difference for me even with a new IAC valve.

On the TPS thing, just note that aftermarket TPS units can suck. I bought a new one cause my connector was brittle and then ended up cutting the connector off and using the original TPS with the new connector.

Yup, have the plate. Been running it for several years now. I'm going to swap out the IAC and see what happens.

On the TPS....I bought genuine Ford part from Ford dealer. Lots of counterfeit stuff out there all over eBay and Amazon.

You could try unplugging the IAC when it happens as well for another indicator. Engine should run with IAC unplugged at idle. That's how you're supposed to set the idle screw.

So if it's idling super high and you pull the connector, if it drops a lot then that's prob it...or something telling the IAC to open.

Did that in the Lowes parking lot. Idle was high...unplugged the IAC and idle went down engine stayed running. Plugged IAC back in and idle went high again. Did this several times with same result.

Local parts stores want $65 for the IAC. Looks like Rock Auto is $35 for IAC, gasket and pigtail kit. Walker brand.

Wow....time flies......

So after the above incident where I was able to pull over in the Lowes parking lot and disconnect the IAC, I ordered an IAC and it's still sitting on my work bench. That points to me being super lazy right? Well maybe not. The rig has ran perfect since the IAC unplug and replug. No issues at all in 9 months. Temps are rising so will be interesting to see if the problem comes back in the dog days of summer. Fingers crossed it will NOT.......

Well my problem came back with new symptoms. Rig would not idle. Idle would hunt then die. I swapped the IAC and the connection is much more secure now.

Ran fine for a few days then out of the blue the motor started shutting off when driving. It would cut out for a few seconds then snap back to life. The cutout would be for a few seconds to several seconds.

Thinking it's fule related....I found the soft line running from the tank to high pressure pump was kinked and is a bit soft. Ziptied it up so no more kink. The weight of the pre HP pump fuel filter was kinking the hose. I guess overtime it's happened.

Ran fine on several test drives. Only time will tell if it's fixed. Going to swap out the hose once fule level gets low. Gas is too $$$ to lose a single drop

Can IAC's be tested off the vehicle? A failing wire or connection can cause intermittent crap like this. But so can a crappy imported part.
Anyway, hoping it's a done deal right now.
