Serpentine conversion first start - belt walk

First, I would like to say thanks to all the contributors on this site, I would have never gotten this far without you. And generally, I never have to post because I can always find answers and guidance searching old threads.

So I started my bronco for the first time since mostly completing the explorer serpentine conversion and electric pump install. Fired right up, but after a minute of running, I noticed the belt was starting to walk out of the grooves if the power steering pump. From there the belt is riding toward the front of the fan pulley and walking out of the grooves on the crankshaft pulley, then gets corrected on the lower passenger side pulley and is fine on the alternator. Based on that, it seems to be that its getting out of whack between the alternator and the power steering pump.

Where do I start to diagnose the issue and come up with a game plan to resolve. After everything was installed, I put a straight edge across all the pulleys, and everything seemed to line up. I did have to space out the crank pulley to get it in line, thought the problem might be there, but it appears the alignment issue starts at the power steering pump, or the pulley between that and the alternator.

If there are additional pics that would help, let me know I’m more than happy to take them.

Thanks in advance.

Your rigged idler pulley just before the power steering looks to be tracking poorly. And would make sense as it steers the belt onto the power steering.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m going to make some adjustments this morning l, I’ll let you knows w how it goes.
Why not explorer pump - i have the saganaw pump with dual returns to support hydro boost.
The rigged idler pulley is the wild horses kit to supply port the pump. Should I remove a washer that is spacing that pulley out to see if it improves the tracking?

the pump bracket mounting to Head should have the same spacing as the idler pully : washers you added ,behind idler pully and sleeve ,,}if four washers space PS pump bracket out 4 washers as well ...the end of the PS pump shaft should be flush with pulley flange when installed could be in a little more I wouldnt pull to set alignment ,

Looks like the WH sag. conversion- running the same setup and looks like you're missing the spacer that goes between the head and the triangular bracket, that's what the hole below the idler bolt is for. That should help to align it to the correct angle:

i am using the stock explorer bolts - the spacer looks "built in" - but maybe i need to shim it out to get the pulley at a better angle.
I did adjust the pulley on the steering pump out slightly as suggested before, but belt still started walking off the front.
Maybe the angle of the idler pulley is slightly down causing it to move that way - i put a straight edge across the pulleys to compare - they were not that far off

No worries, been there before and sometimes all it takes is putting another set of eyes on a problem.

Cheers!
