1) See if the cable is connected to it. If not, connect it.
2) If so, disconnect it & see if the cable spins freely by hand. (Also see if spinning the speedo input causes the needle to move.)
3) If so, reconnect it & see if it's connected at the transfer case. If not, connect it.
4) If so, disconnect it & see if the gears are intact (on the cable & inside the t-case).

If the cable spins, but not smoothly, remove it, wash it in kerosene or deodorized mineral spirits, and apply PTFE grease as you reinsert the cable into the sheath.

Does the odometer still work? Yes, you need the speedometer head rebuilt.
No, time to inspect the drive cable.

I would start with quick inspection. There should be a cable on the tailhousing of the transfer case. 1 bolt holds it in. Take your 7/16 wrench with you as you go under the Bronco so you can remove it.

Once the bolt and retainer are removed the cable will pull out. There is an O-ring that might be a little sticky. Once it is out look at the gear, does it still have teeth on it? Does it spin? Pull off the little spring clip that retains the gear to the cable. Is the tip of the inner cable covered in plastic shavings? Can you spin the inner cable with your fingers? If all that is looking good, stick your finger in the transfer case and make sure there is a gear in there, and it does NOT spin freely. It should be locked to the output shaft.
