With the set up I have the cable is about 2 inches too short.

Anyone make a longer cable and knob?
Or any clever ideas to extent it?

Thanks

Can you "shorten the housing two inches", then reroute the cable assembly more directly?

when I replaced the heater core I had issues with two heater control cables. The defrost cable I re-routed so it actually functions as it should with no binding; the knob NOW faces DOWN, with minimal bends in the cable.
With regard to the heat control valve I completely did away with the cable and instead place a vacuum operated heat control valve that is either open or closed. You want heat, you get heat; if you do not then you will not have it, simple. I used a pull knob switch in place of the cable knob. The new knob operates a electrically operated vacuum switch that allows vacuum to open the heat controlled valve. Sounds complicated but in reality it is simple. I have owned a EB for the last 48 years and my heater/defroster system has NEVER worked this well before. Just another way to skin a cat so to speak. There are alternatives to some of the age old EB engineering shortcoming, in my opinion. Now, if I could just come up with a better small block thermostat housing setup, I could make a fortune!

As said, what is your setup? If you're using the correct cable and it does not reach, then your control valve is in the wrong location.
I'm sure somewhere out there someone can make a custom cable for you. I even seem to remember someone here having it done before, but no idea who it was or where they got it. Been a very long time since we talked about it.

Are the other two cables still working as expected?

Its a 5.0 conversion and I prefer to use a bypass valve like this one 25-1019.

Here are some pictures, it looks like I can push the valve in a bit and make it work but thats not the case. I only need a couple fo inches, will to try and fabricate an extension.

Another option is electronically controlled, but I wanted to keep the original knob. ..

75Mike - that’s a good idea, looks like that cable length is 62”, more than enough.
I could cut it to length and make the circle on the end.

Thanks
