Transfer Seat Part 2

So here’s a little glimpse of how this thing will sit in the truck. Image it resting on the passenger floor board and then exiting out the side of the transmission hump once the driver side floor pan is lowered. Well started that process today, not gonna lie it felt a little weird to be cutting spot welds on a perfectly fine floor board. This Saturday I should have it all cut out and from there I’ll figure out a way to secure this thing so it doesn’t move!

Well I got my floor pan removed and thought I had enough room under my transmission tunnel for my box w/ the slides but it’s looki g really tight. I might be able to cut 2 more inches back on both sides of the floor pan but I’m not sure if that will help. This sucks lol but I think there’s a solution. I’m going to double check some measurements but looking like a 1-2” body lift will solve it. Then it’s time to buy a new collapsible lower steering column and a bumper lift oh and a body lift kit. Anyone need a bronco shirt or set of black door locks, ha! My funds are getting low here . Anyways here’s some pictures to show what’s up! The one with the colored lines are 1” increments that would take my box out of harms way from the drive shaft!

Well as I suspected my slide mechanism is a tad too big. I cut a piece of foam to the same dimensions as my box w/ my slides in it and did a test fit. Yup the corner hits… Fack! Don’t worry I have a solution, I can move it back still one more inch and if I do a body lift it shoukd give me plenty of room to fit with clearance. I did a mini shirt sale drive on mile high bronco club via Facebook and raised some cash to get the body lift from Jeff’s and the collapsible lower steering column. My dads got a hoist and I’ve seen bodies lifted off that way just wonder what the best way or points are to lift my body, anyone done it let me know! More pics for your enjoyment

I usually remove all but 2 bolts, 1 front and 1 rear on one side, but have them loose. Then lift one side and install the mounts or pucks depending on which style, lifting with a 4x4 and a jack under the rocker. Then repeat under the other. That way the body stays aligned with the frame. Hope that makes sense.

If you still have the doors on, make sure they are closed before you start jacking up the body. If you don’t have the doors on , better brace the door opening. Don’t ask me why but I now have EXTRA body alignment to do.

yeah that makes sense, do you leave the front and rear bolt in on the opposite side you're lifting or same side or do you leave the front drivers side bolt and rear passenger side in ?

yeah, i plan on leaving my doors on and shut. I had a set of door braces i made but not sure where they are but id rather not remove my doors because they're a pain to line up....sorry your body got tweeked

the 2 bolts are on the passenger or drivers side so you lean the body to one side and install the body lift on the opposite side for its entire length. That way you are not chasing body alignment to the frame. I find lifting the entire body at once to add difficulty, too many things swinging around and causing issues, and added to the need for more hands. Jacking the body up one side at a time makes it an easy 1 person job.

I have seen people put spacers in the trans crossmember to correct a drive line issue before. You could look at that and see if it would help you without hurting your drive angles to bad.

Latest update. I removed my amp, gonna need to find a new place in the bronco for that. Removed my other door weather stripping my doors close amazingly now! Ha! I took another 1” off the back cut and also had to cut my passenger side a little more than I wanted since I now need an inch on that side too. I did a test fit with my foam block afterwards and it will fit which is promising. I’ll still have to raise the body 1” still otherwise that drive shaft will come into contact with my mechanism! Anyways next plan is to clean up the edges of my cuts and install the new floor pan in!

Ha! Good question I should get a come along and start cranking her down to see. I had my dad get on the back and really jump on it a few times and really the amount of travel wasn’t even noticeable since it’s so close to where it stars on the transmission . It’s so close to where the drive line starts that I believe an 1.25” of clearance should be enough but I’ll double check. The red line is where the lift will be once I install the 1” lift. In order for it to hit the drive shaft would have to be almost parallel with the floor pan. I don’t think even if I bottomed out would the drive shaft make that far up. I drew some lines to simulate the drive line angle if it were to come into contact

Not much progress but cleaned up the lines on my cuts and getting ready to weld in drivers side floor support. Mocked up a sheet that i'll add dimensions to and bust out the brake press and make some replacement floor plans

Just prepping things to get the new floor in. I bought a flange tool from harbor freight! Why I didn’t have one from when I did my body work is something I’m not sure why? lol anyways I’m prepping some pieces that I took out to reuse! I’ll flange the bed ends and sides and slide these caps on making it still look somewhat factory! I’m still amazed to find rust under the seams. This truck makes it out about 4x a year so you wouldn’t think rust would be an issue!

Little more progress got my floor pan sections where the floor meets the bed trimmed up. I popped in there and I think it will fit nicely. I also have my floor channel brace fabed up. They don’t make a brace like this for the drivers side so I took a passenger brace and lengthened it. Came out pretty good! Started to measure out the sheet metal to replace what I cut out and will get those made up hopefully next round! Next will be to clean off all the paint and bed liner and flange off the edges and get it all sheet metal screwed together!

In between I've been thinking how im going to anchor or tie this thing into the truck. im thinking im going to have some plates that bolt into the bottom side on the back and side up front and then bolt that into the frame with some 1/2' thick flat stock steel. this is just a sketch but i probably won't build or draw any formal plans as this will be a fit and build operation.

Not much progress but got my new pieces for the floor pan cut and bent up!! Waiting on a friend to help me weld the spots I can’t reach. In the meantime going to remove paint and bed liner in those areas and get is prepped!
