So the diff will be about 3" off center of axle.
Going to have oil pan clearance issues @ full stuff??
This is just the rear axle that I'm building now, I haven't started on the front mog9 yet.
I'll offset the front diff more and mod the oilpan if problems occur up front.

OK, I should have been paying more attention. My plan with the front 406 is move the diff over 5" to the drivers side and move the axle 6-7 inches forward. Even then it is going to be tight, but the 9" diff is much more compact than a 406 diff.

Does anyone know what type of steel the stock unimog axle shafts are made of?

Anyone know of other sources for the disc brake conversion hubs to 8 lug?

Axle shafts are cut and resplined, Rock rings and inner cages are in.
I got welding to do. The only parts now needed are the hubs.

Mac is having a new machinist build his hubs. Last I heard was a prototype being done. I pretty much have everything to get this going but the disc brake hubs...

One thing you may want to discuss with them is the class fit on the splines (assuming they are cutting splines for entirely new hubs). Merc cut them extremely tight, which is why they are so hard to get off (usually). Mine were cut "looser" and I have had no problems with them in 4 years. Have never had one off, but I do carry an extra portal box in the tow rig just in case. Would hate not to be able to get the hub off the swap it over the field.

Anyway, just a thought for ya.........

There was a glitch with the O.D. of the hubs but Mac took care of it. I finally got them back a couple weeks ago but Taz and I were too busy fishing. Now I can get started working on them again. I may have some time today so I bump up this thread to get myself motivated.
Hub parts still mixed up with my fishing gear.%)

So any updates?

I'm working on the inner cages for the H1 wheels so that I have a baseline measurement on the mock-up. Also I'm setting a 31 spline 9" dropout for the alxes to sit in while I tack the flanges in place.
This is just the rear mog9. I have all the pieces, just lacking the time.

And the fishing has been good...

Just thought I would ask. I am in the process of laying out my bronco out right now. I have the 404 axles under the frame and thinking about doing the mog9's. I want to drive it on the street and the gearing would be better, otherwise was thinking of narrowing the axles on one side to get the rear closer to center and pull the front away from the oil pan.
