I'm not sure what determines how many blades the fan has. Out of all the broncos I have only 2 have/had 7 blades. All the rest have/had 5 except for the 66. It had a 4 blade fan when it had the stock 6 banger in it.

I believe there should be a number stamped on the back side of the part that holds each blade. It should start with D4 for the 74

Is there that much of a difference in fan blades between years for the 302 bronco? Also may I ask how you know the part would start with D4 for the 74?

Was the spacer/ fan offset any different?

Reason being.... another member has a 7 blade that came with his bronco. He said it looks original but couldn't find any part numbers on it other that an arrow to show the direction. I'm guessing it will work fine but just wanna make sure there aren't any reasons why it wouldn't. Seems a lot of you have 7 blade fans on your 302's.

The Letters on ford parts are like this i believe C is 60,s D is 70,s E is 80,s and the number after is the other part of year. Does not mean that it will be with a bronco of that year it's just when the part was made. I do have a few blades with nothing on them also and thought they came off a bronco. So now i'm confused also. I quit. D

302 engine 1974 Bronco's have 2 different fan, pully, water pumps sets depending on wether or not you have a California truck with smog pump or a 49 state truck. The fan spacers are different, the alternator mount is different, the alternator pully is different, the pulleys for the water pump and crank shaft are different and the water pump is different. My 1974 Bronco (California) came with a 7 blade factory fan and i know its origional. My 74 Bronco (49 state) has a 5 blade Fan but i dont truly know if the engine is origional to this truck I havnt researched that far into it.

Now that's some very interesting information!

Thanks for sharing.

I'm almost positive mine was a 49 state truck but I'll have to check the vin to be sure. Can you tell a difference in the pulleys/ bracket's by looking at them and how they are oriented?

the main difference was the GVR package offered also. The Heavy Duty package had the 7 blade fan and usally included the Automatic Transmission.
