anyone ever remove one from one windshield frame and install in another themselves? is this something that should be left to the pros?
I've removed mine to paint and then reinstalled it. A lot depends upon your level of patience and the condition of the windshield seal. If I recall right I started from the inside on one corner and then slowly worked the seal out. Do not try to do this from the front though (I found this out the hard way on another one I had planned to replace mine with). Another way is to just cut the old seal out and put a new one back in which I think is how most do it. (I wanted to save the seal since it was still in good shape)

Hey SaddleUp, have you ever replaced a windshield yourself?;)

Just the one mentioned above. A bit of a PITA but with patience it can be done. My original plan was to take mine out and then use one that was in better shape after it was painted. When I went to pull the second one out though I tried to take it out from the front (at the time it was packed with parts inside). I never made it past the first corner though before I cracked it so I just put my old one back in mine. One of these days I'll get new glass to replace it though (Mine has pits in it from welding around it). I hope to get it painted again early this summer so maybe I'll get a new one then.

LOL, Probably. Must have been a glitch last night. I remember it failed to go through the first time so I hit the button again. Didn't notice that it posted it 3 times though.

Can these glass shops do the same thing for the side windows in the hardtop? Is it the same process changing this glass and putting in a new seal?

My local Quality Glass came to my house and replaced mine.
I called on the phone and they came out the next day with a new windshield.
He said the old windshield was only 3/16" thick while his new one was 1/4".
I had ordered a Dennis Carpenter gasket, but it was too big and didn't fit so he reused the old gasket, which was in good shape.
He removed my old windshield - get this - in less than two minutes! I turned my back on him to straighten something out on my workbench, turned around and he was carrying the old one to his van.
The new one he slapped into place in 5 minutes. We BS'd about things too - he was at my house a total of 20 minutes.
I paid $220.00 but I thought it was well worth it. This guy was good!
Carries some good glass cleaner too.
If I did the job, it would be a half day of pissing, cussing, and high blood pressure. Sometimes it's better to have a pro do it. ;D

Yes, same thing. It's a little easier to get them out and put them back in though. (Or at least that is my experience)
