You should have a converter custom built for your needs. An 1800-2200 stall will probably give you finesse for crawling. If you really want to put down the power then maybe a 2200-2800 stall, and if you can left foot brake you still have the same control.

I agree with having a converter built, I had one built last year when I swapped in a c6. When talking with the converter guy he brought up how stall speed changes when you go from hi to low range, yours may be affected even more with a lower geared atlas. I used revmax for mine, took about 10 days from order til it was at my house, they build every one to order based on your combo.

Personally I think that you are getting close to the limit for a c4 to live a happy life but I'm sure others will disagree. Of course much of it depends on type of use and driving style.

Converter change wont be as needed with a cam change if you are still planning that. You can talk to Branting industries (local to us off ralston rd and sheridan blvd) and get their opinion.

And run as big of cooler as you can then figure out how to upsize it from there. The one in Chris' race truck is pretty massive and has no issues keeping cool while racing. Have the shop look into the cooling ports. I believe you can enlarge them a touch to allow more oil to the cooler.

You are getting your reverse manual valve body from Broader--I would call and ask about stall, and buy one of his convertors too, based on his recommendations. In the way of C4's, he will not steer you wrong.

I would be looking for a convertor with a little lower K-factor. People that really know torque convertors will know what K-factor is. Too bad so much of the aftermarket has no idea.

Aside from having the C4 already, is there a reason you're not just upgrading to a C6? You can build the hell out of a C4, and it still won't be as strong as a C6, so in looking at the rest of your rig with D60/35-spline 9", 39" stickies, etc, why not make the leap?

Have you lengthened the wheel base any? or are you pretty much stuck with the C-4 for space reasons?

The C4 is completely adequate. C6 doesn't fit a Bronco that has enough lift for 39s.
