THIS!!!!

Raptor is a perfect candidate for the new 7.3!

%) Why? the High Output Ecoboost in my Raptor already makes 450HP and 510lbs. Which is better than what this heavy ass, gas guzzling new engine is attempting to get.

I get 15mpg in Sport mode tearing about city/backroads. When I make the long 600 mile highway trips I press a button and "detune" the performance/shifts and cruise along getting better MPG than that.

Slapped on the new Borla exhaust and it actually sounds better (but different) than a V8.

It's funny to me how many people say online (not here) that they would buy a new Raptor if it still had the 6.2L V8. (411hp/434lbs with 0-60 of 7.1secs and 11/15mpg..ha..nobody even gets that) vs the 3.5 HO EB (0-60 of 5.2 and 15/18mpg).

I hope I am not coming off as insulting because that is not my intent. I am just saying big engines are a thing of the past. I had a 2007 Z06 Corvette with the 7.0L and it was stupid fast as OEM. It took me awhile to realize that there is a reason GM went smaller. Technology beats displacement.

I would like to see a builder put the 3.5 HO Eco in an Early Bronco. Now that would be impressive.

Ecoboost raptor sounds better than a v8? I have heard Ecoboost with exhaust and we'll......... All I'm going to say is we promote telling the truth on this forum ;D

I am older, I grew up when bigger was better. No replacement for displacement, no substitute for cubic inches. This was all true for the times. Big V8's were king. For me they always will be. So there is zero appeal for me to own a "factory"performance v6 anything. When the v6 went into the raptor I lost all interest. That's just me, I personally love the big step backwards to a larger V8.

Exactly, whenever I hear about how great a set of hamster wheels are on a v6, I immediately think, well put a pair on a v8 then. Like the new GT should have. How an almost half million dollar supercar got passed ford design with a v6 called an economy boost is beyond me. That car spanked Ferrari 50 plus years ago with a fire breathing side oiler FE with noisy solid lifters and now it has a v6 :-[

I had the 3.5 Explorer Sport twin turbo for a little over 6 years (we got one on order as soon as they were announced back in mid-2012) and LOVED it! The engine was the best thing about that vehicle. Even flat towed my Bronco up I-80 from Auburn to Tahoe once with it and it was clear that the engine had a LOT of performance yet to go. Yet...I couldn't help but think about how hard that little V6 was working in order to get the kind of performance it had available. Me personally...I would prefer a bigger engine that's not working very hard over a little engine that's pumped up on boost and performing a lot better than you'd expect. If it came down to an engine swap into my Bronco, my money's on the bigger engine lasting longer. I won't care much if the ecoboost gets a little better fuel economy than a 7.3.

Plus, I'm with bax. I want my Bronco to have that muscular V8 sound!

Depends what exhaust on either the v8 or HO ecoboost...and personal preference. From OEM the Raptor sounded like a weedwhacker...then added Borla Atak and it sounded like a sportscar but a bit on the tin can ricer side. Deleted the Xpipe and added a 3rd resonator and sounds great...not loud and obnoxious. Get tons of compliments from guys in V8 trucks. But no it doesnt sound like a V8. Who cares? Its not a V8. It is better than one in all aspects though (comparble V8). Its just reality fellas.
I am a huge Formula 1 fan...I was in disbelief when they went from V12s to V10s then V8s and the speeds and perfromance kept goimg up. Now they use V6s and in the last season or so nearly every track record from the big engines has fallen by huge amounts

The best sounding Ecoboost raptor by far has yet to be heard. It will the one on the trailer behind a f250 with that new 7.3 gaser with aftermarket exhaust ;D

I’m with bax. I’ve got a 6.2 raptor. Yep it’s slower than the v6 but at what cost. The 6.2 has is barely working to make 411hp. I did a injector swap, throttle body swap, a tune and a bunch of other stuff on a v6 f150 for a guy. Yep it’s crazy fast now but again it’s working that v6 hard to make the numbers. How long will they last with that much boost. I can lean on the 6.2 and it just keeps pulling. Heck with a tube I can get 500 ponys and not touch the engine at all. Drop in a Livermore’s cam, add headers and exhaust and 600 NA hp is with in reach. I think Tumblin has a 6.2 making 650 without turbos or a blower Same with the old FE in my 66 f100. Not big hp numbers yet(445 stroker in the works he he he ) but for a truck the power needs to come in low and stay consistent all the way up to 4500. I think the 7.3 is a great choice. I’d put one in my 78 in heart beat it was available. New tech is awesome but for solid reliability cubes rule.

I'm just thinking of how nice the 7.3 would make a boat motor. Simple compact design. Engineered to be run hard hour after hour. Be efficient while running hard. This says it should be a boat motor. If you need a new ~450 HP engine, this looks like it would be a good choice.

There's already been some talk about this too.

It naturally follows that the Mustang is a better road course car.

It's not, although getting very close with 2018 PP2, finally.

Eco's are better (as far as turbos go), but still don't have the throttle response of a big V-8. Especially a big V-8 with a mechanical throttle, which less and less these days have ever experienced. Probably why they don't miss it, don't even know how good it was.

Exactly, whenever I hear about how great a set of hamster wheels are on a v6, I immediately think, well put a pair on a v8 then. Like the new GT should have. I understand the GT, it was packaged to meet rules and have certain aero to win.
But I don't understand why they didn't go bigger in the mustang. Bought my Capri 5.0 is 86 and
didn't even consider another Stang until 2011. The 4.6 was pathetic motor for the Stang
(really for anything, vice the crown vic maybe).

Boss 351/460 has 575/575 for the specs. The stock truck version of the new 7.3 will be significantly less. Of course expect the SVT version of the 7.3 to be comparable to the 460. The good thing about the production 7.3 is it has to cost less than the limited manufacture for the 460. Read about the specs for the 460 on Ford Performance crate motor site. Its part number is M-6007-Z460.
All said I would expect both to have nearly the same dimensions, but weight (?).
One thing for sure is a production 7.3 will be way cheaper than the 460, but an SVT version will probably be like the 460 or a little less?
And I expect the SVT 7.3 will result in the demise of the SVT 460.

Not quite as good of numbers as I was hoping for. 500+ ft. lbs. would be preferred.

But I will be interested to see economy, and how much more power 5 Star can tune in to it.

I gotta believe Ford went this way as a better option for the folks (like me) who can’t afford a diesel in the super duty trucks. The 6.2 had a bad rep and the 6.7 diesel is astronomical on cost...so enter the 7.3 gasser with good power and a mileage improvement over other gassers. As a swap - yeah it sounds real good if it fits and the controller and trans options are available.

If it is smaller than a coyote, I would consider swapping on both my EB and fox body. I'd even consider swapping into both my FSB's, as mild mods should make 500 Gross hp stupid simple.

Since it's a pushrod motor it should be a bit narrower but I haven't seen any actual measurements.

My thoughts exactly.

Cortez - You hit it right on the head. Better gas motor and not as expensive as 6.7l Diesel.

According to videos, compared to the Coyote, the 7.3l gas motor is a lot more narrow, slightly taller and longer. I think it was also said to have the Modular Bellhousing Bolt Pattern as well.

If a stand alone Control Pack is available at some point, like the Coyote, this new motor could go in just about anything. It would be a Very interesting conversion.
