Will the 5.0 comp EFI computer control the 4R70w?

I am using the Ford fuel injection harness built by Ryan, I know it has a plug for and Electronic tranny Anybody know if it will accomodate the 4r70w and if it does with the shift points be weird/wrong?

Yes That’s what I have it’s wired for the older controller before opti shift I think that is what the newer one is callled . You can change the wires around for the new one in the black plug

Thanks Deepwoods! I thought I had read somewhere here on CB.com that with deeper axle gears and the mustang computer may not play well with shift points?

I may pony up the money for the stand alone controller though.

Pretty sure Ryan’s harness has the plug in for the standalone trans computer. The Ford 5.0 ECU cannot handle the 4R70w by itself, however, the Explorer ECU/harness can be adapted to negate the requirement of a standalone transmission unit.

Thanks MP, I have Ryans harness and the mustang computer, I could not remember what that plug was for but did recall it was for an automatic. As I said I will likely just buy the standalone as it gives so much adjustability of shift points.

Thx

What computer code are you running? That might make a difference.
The original stand alone controller is the Bauman, later the Optishift, now the quickshift series. What generation is that harness? It's hard to tell when the old stuff has even older stuff and it is still running.

The older one is the bauman you can change 2 wires around in Ryan’s plug if I remember correctly and use the opti shift .you are correct the mustang computer doesn’t control the transmission you will need a stand alone controler . I was going to build 2 Broncos and have a new Extra baumam and harness I never used if your are interested Pm me
