I may end up making my own rear fenders.

Whatever it takes...I'll have rear quarters that match the front fenders.

Mounts for the 60" Deavers are tacked into place...Just need to do some final fit of the bumper to the back edge of the shackle hangars, then I can weld those up. Had to section a small piece of each side of the rear bumper to clear the shackle as it travels during compression.

(Tough to see all I did....the shackle hangers are all the way at the back of the frame (probably moved back ~12", the rear bumper will be welded to the frame to extend the frame length, and the shackles will be finish welded to both the frame and the bumper.)

It is supported on all 4 tires for the first time in almost a year. (It's had the front/rear end gutted and been sitting on jack stands since September.)

Added a windshield brace bar, starting to place the tabs to hold the top of the windshield & mounted the Fuel pressure reg....feels good to make some progress again.

Put the fuel cell/fuel lines, etc back in and got the rear shocks hung in the cage to get the axle end mounts worked up. Figured out where the rear sway bar needs to go, just need to pick up the parts from Speedway....

Thanks...it's getting there.

It seems like it should do real well with these leaves. With just my weight on the bumper, the rear end drops 1.5".....I'm somewhere in the 120-130 lb/in range, super-soft, which will be perfect for massive jumping and high-speed whoop action. The ride height puts the shocks perfectly in the middle of their 16" of travel....

I'm trying to make steady progress from here on out...so long as I can keep up the pace, next year might be the one.

Fitting up the inserts and trying to figure out my tube doors.....

Got the bumpstops back inside their cans (cans warp when you weld.)

I need to take the rear leaf springs down to a single leaf and set the rear suspension at full compressed to make the towers for the shocks to mount on the leaf spring plate. Maybe this weekend....

Scott,

Your rig is taking shape nicely. I look forward to seeing how she turns out (fine I am sure).

Keep up the exemplary work.

i was wondering, although i am sure you already covered it (sorry if i am repeating questions), why you chose to use leaf springs instead of building a 4-link for the rear. Great buildup by the way...I will most likely e using your rig as an example for when i run coilovers in the front.

1) I wanted to also drive it on the street occasionally. My friend's truck which is 4-link front/rear is awesome off-road, but a little unstable on the street for my liking.
2) I thought I'd save some money going this route, but in the end it will end up only a little less expensive than 4-link.
3) I wanted to be a little different.

If you're planning on coil-overs alone (with out the bypass shocks in tandem) I'd place the coilover directly over the axle. Fitting the shocks where I have them gets very tight on the clearance with the tires when turned. Putting the coilover over the axle eliminates this (always at the point where you have the most clearance from the tire.

Core support & Driver fender supports

Here are some pics from my progress over the last weeks. Core support is mostly done & I have the driver side dzus/fender supports & hood pin mounts done. I will section where you see the tape and flange the tubing so the fender supports can separate from the core support.

Great job! Every thing looks really good. Did you make those rear shackles yourself? Where did you get your Deaver leafs. Thanks, Marc

I got the leaves from JBG, it's not an item they stock, but my friend is the Mgr there and got me in touch with Deaver.

Rear shackles were made by someone else, (I won't mention them as I wasn't too thrilled with the result) I had to do quite a bit of work to them once I rec'd them to make them look as they do (they weren't all that square, they were only welded on 1 side, the welds looked like crap.) I should have just made them myself as they aren't that complex to make & it took forever to get them. (2" longer than stock)

Scott,

Your rig is lookin' awesome. It is obvious that it is very well thought out.

I look forward to more updates.

Thanks...sometimes I think I think about it too much.%) Got the dzus stiffeners mounted on the pass side fender last night, so maybe tonight I'll get the main struts built.

2 horses of differing breeds... yet both a marvel of engoneering!

...of course yers had a FORD power plant... so it's got 1 up on the 1/2 breed ;)
