Hey Td,

I called Summit to confirm which rotor was the last one that I received and finally worked. The Summit part no. is as follows: SMPFD311. It worked out nicely with the larger cap conversion.

Good luck,

Rob

I don't understand why the rotor is so difficult. Pick a D-S II vintage vehicle and get the cap & rotor for it. Do Not tell the counter guy/gal what it's really going on, that just confuses the hell out of him/her and messes up everything. I've found that this is particularly true in the mass market chain stores, which I try very, very hard to not patronize any more!
Do your research first, then get the parts for the application that you've found. This is the way that I've done things like this for 20+ years.

According to Rock Auto the Standard Motor Products D-S II cap part number is FD161 and the matching rotor part number is FD117. I found these numbers by looking up a 1980 Bronco with a 5.0L.
Summit isn't selling you anything special or different if they are supposed to be stock replacement parts. You don't have to have their parts exclusively for it to work right, not if you educate yourself on what parts to ask for first.

Hell you just need to get the cap, adapter, and rotor for a '77 Bronco. None of this has anything to do with the old GM HEI ignition that has the coil in the distributor cap. The cost of converting to Duraspark II in post #46 ignores the fact that all the parts can be had from a junk yard for less than 100 dollars. But again the speed shops don't sell OE parts.

I should have mentioned that ANY vintage Ford V8 that would have had Dura-Spark II can be used as the application to give to the parts counter person for the cap & rotor. Doesn't have to be a Bronco, doesn't have to be any particular year, just has to be a D-S II vintage vehicle and a little poking around on Rock Auto's page will show you how to figure this out. Hell, you can even buy the parts from them! About the only thing there to be careful of is that you want the "triangular rotor" and NOT the "round rotor".

With older vehicles that have been modified you can no longer rely on the parts person to understand what has been done. YOU have to figure out what part it is that you need and YOU have to find an application to give to the parts counter that gets you that part. If you can't or won't do this this then everything that you ever do with working on the vehicle is going to be a battle. If this is the case then I strongly suggest that you leave the vehicle dead stock. Or find another hobby.

Finally found the box for my rotor. I went to the larger cap, so I could use different style of wire's. Here are the part number I used, Cap ECHFA134 and Distributor Cap Adapter ECHFA151 from napa and rotor F955 AutoZone.
