D20 is a leaking machine

Folks, I have the stock D20 that leaks at the bolts on the front shaft cover mounting bolts and the back bolts that secure the cover for the bearing. I'm surprised I'm having this much trouble sealing these bolts with a case that isn't pressurized. Please let me know your sealing tips, thanks

Two things to check, First, the yokes on these old rigs can wear down at the seal, and then they can't seal. It can look like your bolts are leaking, but its really that the seal can't contact the yoke so it leaks. Also, I had a case, that had a very small crack below the lowest bolt on the front output flange. It had been sealed by paint for years, but eventually it created a slow leak.

I've watched the rear seal area closely and your right I do get some. I wipe it down after a run and then watch. It sure looks like the bolts. I'll try the teflon tape and I may also try oring washers. The bummer I loose another quart plus trying to fix this thing.

Use liquid teflon sealant, not tape.

Not the tape, the paste. If you're quick and prepared you can remove the bolt, put your finger over the hole, paste it up and re-install it without losing much oil.

Then there's the shims at the back of the front output shaft. Leakin SOBs for my experience. I read a thread on this site about how to stop it...some special sealer to put between the shims. I will try it someday. When I change the oil, as soon as I find a place to buy the 50wt.
