Damm Nick! That thing is looking great. Keep at it. Thanks for your service.

Thanks Dude, things are starting to really fall into place. Got the ballistic 7/8" steering kit installed  hopefully I will get some plate steel tomorrow and Finish up my shock hoops.

Also those full roller rockers on my cobra motor, they seem to have a ford oval on them. Does anyone have any input on that?

Uhhh, & maybe just a little bit of welding & Fab work??? LOL!

Oh whaaa whaa whaa like you don't have anything but time :p I still havent gotten the steel %) I will try again tomorrow. I don't think we can do anything without it aside from the front gears/locker. If its not raining I'll show up with some suds and we can get to work.

Time? Yeah, with my wife, 4 kids, & my own projects right?

Should be able to atleast knockout your rear shocks as we've got everything for them. Cut your rockers & prep the sliders minus caps. Front gears, blah, blah, blah. Pleeeenty to do.

Update, Today was a good success right up till the point where we went to check the backlash. I had gotten the 4.10 and up carrier from a member on Pirate in the classifieds. He was wrong... It was a 3.93 and down :p So tomorrow looks like I start the search for another 4.10 and up open. If nothing I will get one from complete offroad.

Today was productive to say the least, I managed to replace every wear Item on the front except the Ujoints and spindle bearings. The gear setup went well and I was able to get the tooth pattern pretty dialed in with my setup bearings. Conveniently as soon as I got that done Fungus was able to lend a hand and we pressed on the new bearings and made some final adjustments which netted us a final back lash of .0085, I even topped it all off with some nice new warn premiums. I was mortified by how nasty the axle was on the inside. The gear oil was a nice milk shake color%). I also got some fancy shmancy new steering links from ballistic. Tomorrow I'll mock up the shock mounts and cut the rockers off.

Got the rest of the front buttoned up today and started prepping it for the big day of welding tomorrow. Few pics of the hoops I'm using for the front and finally pic of it with the new soft top on.

also got a licence plate bracket from Fungus, I'm not sure if these came with a plastic pin in the hinge or it was a PO mod But it came out in pieces. You could pitch it and buy a new one or use a 99 cent coleman tent stake as the new pin.

i like those hoops. i often wonder why vendors don't make hoops that run to the top of the coil towers. does anyone even run shocks in front of the coil towers anymore?

Thats a valid point, these are from marlin crawler and were recommended to me by other members. I have been jonesing for a pre bent weld in set of coil over/airshock hoops with engine cross bar. The answer I got was that anyone wanting to run airshocks ought to be able to make their own hoops.

Cage used to make a snazzy set that attached to the upper coil mount. I think they underwent a name change or something.

I bet this eBay item would be an excellent start for a set of hoops that attach to the coil buckets:

Today was a really slow but rewarding. Fungus got all the sliders capped and welded up and I cleaned em up so they are nice and purdy before they get slammed on rocks. The best part was the shock hoops and rear shock mounts, they came out really fantastic and I am very happy with them. I got one rocker cut off and the other almost there, as soon as thats off the sliders go on and I will put the detroit in the rear.

2x6x.250 wall tubing w/ 1/4" end caps welded straight to the body.

Ok I have it all cleaned up and painted, it looks really nice I'll add pics later. To sum it all up I was able to do a complete rebuild on the front axle including gears and a locker. The steering links were replaced, way overdue. The shock mounts got re-worked and the body had some fat trimmed off it. I wanted to get the detroit in the rear pretty bad with nice new gears and shafts but it wasn't in the cards. Just as always I ran out of time and I have to go now. Big thanks to john for all the help and tools to get so much done in such little time. Plans for right now are to put some stabilizer in the tank and hook up the battery tender. I will be leaving for Afghanistan tomorrow. There is a silver lining however, as soon as I get back there will be a nice big shiny pile of parts ready and waiting and I will go head first into the 95 cobra motor install. Thanks for all the kind words in the thread, I will try to check in from around the globe when I can.
