So HERE'S ANOTHER Question about my Running Buddies Bronco.. Body is a 66.
Every thing else has been changed . Has a 1987 Lincoln MarVII 5.0L HO .& aod.
. I'm just going to say every parts new on it. . New Injectors all the sensors . Motor overhauled at out local Machine shop. & He does lot's of Cool Builds ..
Classics cars & Tractors . Tractor pulling motors & Truck pulling motors . Big truck stuff . GOOD SHOP..
BUT When he cranks it cold ... It doesn't JUST start up. You have to Feather it like it had a carb on it. & You have to keep up with it for about 5 minutes ... Or it'll die a time or 2. It'll get to where it stays running. But while it's idling at a light or in close quarters, You sure smell the raw fuel. & He's had it running for 2 weeks now & 1st tank of fuel as Motor was new ... It got 9 mpg. & He says it looks like It may get 11 this time.
... 1st tanks fuel was old . Old but about a year old. But After the 2nd tech got it to finish it & get it running . 1ST TECH just didn't know completely how to finish it. IT WAS 95% FINISHED.& 95% of the work looks good. But he just kept saying it won't run. SO Finally he gave it bad to my Buddy & We took it to another old tech I knew that had Retired after working for the local Ford house .. He had it running in about an hour. But not perfect yet.
SO HE PUT ON NEW Battery Cables & fixed some ''BAD GROUNDS'' .. iT CRANKS Cold & I'll now crank Hot & several gauges went to work..
But this tech no 2 still wasn't sure about the MAP Sensor. He admitted he didn't get those jobs at ford .
But he said Bring him some good fuel .. This fuel is old. SO i TOOK 10GALLONS OF NEW ..93 GRADE FUEL. Buddy say It has alway had to have the 93fuel to run.
SO NOW THAT Tank has be run through & tank no 2 is out & He's on tank no 3 now of 93..
.....Brother AL is in the process of just driving it, so when we take it to tech no3. No. 3 is normally a very expensive tech in town. But he does about 90% of the Classic restos in town . But He's agreed to take a look at his Bronco. Al has way to much money in this thing for it not to run.
...............
...........Any thoughts from the CHOIR..

My EFI doesn't like to idle well when cold either, but it's got low vacuum at idle due to my cam. Runs and idles fine once it is warmed up though.

What EEC-IV computer does it have? The stock '87 Lincoln? The Lincoln computer is "speed density" and won't like many modifications. Also, speed density computers use the MAP sensor (manifold air pressure) versus the mass air type computers that use the Barometric Pressure and MAF sensors. A bad MAP sensor and the engine basically won't run well at any RPM.

Make sure the idle air bypass is on the correct direction, and is not stuck. Sometimes they get gummed up with carbon/oil/junk. The IAB should be able to provide enough air when it's open to start without your foot on the gas pedal.

How's the base timing on the distributor? Don't forget to pull the connector to set base timing.

Would be good to read any codes from the computer also. Might give an indication of something.
