The stock two piece hubs. I was able to get one out with a slide hammer but the other one is stuck good.

Did you remove the lock ring? They should come out pretty easy unless your hub is damaged.

So which part are you having trouble with. Once you remove the two snap rings, you should be able to rock the wheel back and forth, and the large spring behind the hub assembly, should push it out.

As you can see in savage's pics, the original hubs were definitely not 2-piece units. Feel more like fifty pieces the first time you tackle one!

But in either case, I don't remember every having trouble with the outer knob assembly. Is that what you meant, or are you meaning the parts inside of the knob?

Good luck.

I mean they are two main gears. All the lock rings are off. I got one side out but the other is stuck.

Gear in the top left corner of the left pictures.

I had trouble pulling one on my f150 (same hub). The end of the axle shaft had a sharp edge worn on it where the inside snap ring rides, I had to file the inside of the teeth to get the hub to come off. It was a huge pain in the butt, you can get about 1/2" stroke with a file. Not sure if this is your problem, just what I had happen. Good luck!

I was able to get the center gear off the axle. I am going to try a pilot bearing puller. I hope it will get in there.

I have to ask, is the tire on or off the bronco? is it sitting on the ground or on jacks. Why I ask is if its still on the ground I can see why you had a bitch of a time getting the one gear off. If it's on jacks, like langester said it could have a sharp edge where the snap ring seats on the axle and where the larger snap ring seat in the outer edge of the hub, that's if the last gear is sliding up at all. Does the last gear your trying to get off move at all?

This. If it's off the ground, jiggle the hub. If it's on the ground and the bearings are the least bit loose, it's going to bind the locking gear pretty good.

Good luck.

I have never had to use a slide hammer, to get the hubs out, even when they were stubborn, you could push on them or shake the hub to get them out. Glad you got them out, look at your splines on the axle end for damage and look at the inside of the hub for damaged splines.
