Junkyard Hydroboost - Always Rebuild Them? Also Other Hydroboost Questions

Ok thanks. It really does kind of sound like a crapshoot. The rebuild doesn’t look that hard, it’s the quality of the kit seals I worry about. Would suck to take a non-leaking unit and put in poor quality seals that then leak. The reviews on Amazon seem all over the place on the seal kits (A-Team, Pirate Jack, etc). I’m leaning towards just rebuilding it though.
Save the spring retainer clip that comes in those kits, I make
the rods and have found a spring but I don't make those clips.

I ran my junk yard hydroboost for 10 years before it finally started leaking. 95’ Astro Van. I just bought the Cardone reman from Rock Auto. Get one at the junk yard and run it till it leaks. They don’t really fail, they just start seeping PS fluid.

The bell crank adapter on EBay only works with the factory angle bracket. It won’t work with TBP’s bracket, or any of the other after market angle brackets. Buy the entire angle bracket from the EBay vendor or the offset bracket works good too. I installed both, I like the offset bracket because it keeps more space available in that area.

I got the Toms angle bracket from the-glove today and my bell crank will work, the only issue is my kit uses a 1/2" bolt and Toms bracket has a 9/16 bolt. I made tabs that could be welded on or tighten down so the wouldn't turn. I will post photos later.

Thanks! Catfan has been really helpful with answering my questions on hydroboost. I sent him my Tom’s angled bracket so he could help me assess if the bell crank needed to be changed or anything else altered....which it did.

Ended up rebuilding the hydroboost unit yesterday and painted it. Swapped out the main piston seal, figure 8 case seal, accumulator seal, spool valve plug seal, and check valve components. I couldn’t replace the input shaft bushings because I’m not completely confident i can get the staked pedal rod in and out without damaging anything, which sucks because the bushings on the input shaft looked kind of worn down....but when i took it out at the junkyard i don’t think i saw fluid on the cabin side of the bracket so I’m hoping it’s not leaking from there. Fingers crossed nothing leaks!

Good to know, thanks for the info.
