Ok, of course now that the front axle is out and with the frame sitting on jack stands... I need to move the Bronco again to work on something else.

so... I had some casters laying around and decided to whip up a rolling stand today. it slides into the ends of the frame rails nice and snug and it worked out quite well. rolls around nice and smooth, better than the cheap dollies under the tires. I also made it so I can slide a floor jack between the legs from the front to make it easy to re install the front axle. "labeled" it too, so I'll know what project it goes to.;D
I think I will make one for the rear as well, but a bit wider though to aid in stabillity. they will come in handy for future projects.

Very nice indeed!

Listen to you-"whip it up". You make it sound sooo easy, like you're just gluing popsicle sticks together! Never fails, when something is no longer mobile you need to move it. Our shops are never big enough! Nice work Brian.

Yeah no kidding, the kid has more talent in his pinky than I have in my whole family! %)

Not sure why you didn't just make it steerable then you could drive it around the yard;D
Nice job bro.

Looks great. Just checked out the entire build so far and all your work is top notch.
thanks drock, I try my best. hopefully more exciting things are yet to come!

never had too much luck with the popsicle sticks... couldn't quite figure out how to keep them from burning up when I try to weld them.;D

surprise surprise! I'm making another change again.%)
decided that I want a 2-1/2" suspension lift. so for the rear I allready have a set of Wild Horses 3-1/2" lift springs but rather than deal with the expense of trying to move these and then purchase new springs I decided to go the route of removing some leafs. for starters I removed the third one down from the top along with the to smallest on the bottom. this give a drop in thickness of .72" and I'll have to see where it settles once everything is reinstalled. when I had the 3-1/2's in briefly the rear sat extra high so hopefully my estimation will work out well, and if I need a little more height or capacity it will be simple to add one or both of those bottom leafs back while still in the truck.
also, for reference, I measured 7.5" from the axle tube to the frame as it sits now with the new stock height 5 pack springs. and using the 200 pound human compression test, those compress an inch upside down on the floor where my "new" 8 pack springs compress less than half an inch.
and just for fun, for the leafs I removed, the small ones don't give much under my weight but are pre-loaded when tightened in the pack. as for the long leaf, 200 pounds seem just about the necessary amount to flatten it right to the ground.

for anyone that is looking to mess with their spring packs and comes along and finds this it's easy enough with a couple of large enough C-clamps.
a quick rundown of what I did:

remove the bolts and spacers from the retainers in the middle, the two outermost can stay and help aid keeping things together.
clamp a couple C-clamps on the spring pack and remove the center pin.
loosen clamps and remove desired leaf(s), the third one down will slide out the front no problem.
putting them back together is a little more tedious with all those little spacer plates. just start lining things up and get the pin started then use the C-clamps to suck them back together. a small hammer works well to tap things around so the pin will drop through. once everything is in place, tighten the pin, remove the clamps and put the bolts and spacers back in the retainers.
done:)

I'll take those leftovers! I picked up some used WH 3.5" leafs and they are fairly pitted and rusted and could probably use the help.

probably will be hanging on to them for a while in case I need to add any back. have to get it on the ground and see how it sits as well as getting it out to flex a bit to see if it settles any down the road.

well I just finished another session of swapping axles and springs again. also played around with moving the axle back for more tire clearance...not sure I like it, looks a little funny to me, maybe with the bigger tire. I moved it back 7/8", drilled new holes in the spring perches and milled a slot in the top plate.
so back on the ground it now measures about 9-1/4" from axle tube to frame. but the truck is empty other than the drive train and the front is supported by my solid rolling front frame stand. so for now I guess I'll leave it until I get the front suspension reinstalled along with some more weight in the truck to see where it settles then deal with it as necessary.

I don't think it looks bad, honestly. I'm betting with the bigger tire, it will look great. Mine looked absoultely goofy when I was running back and forth to the alignment shop on the 265 rollers vs the 35's.

today I completed a task I wasn't sure I was going to do or not, cut and turn the knuckles. had that empty housing sitting there so long finally figured it would be crazy not to do it now and would most likely regret it later if I didn't do it.
so a couple hours later they are ground, rotated and ready to be welded back up.
wasn't too bad of a job, the second side went much quicker after learning the best way to attack it by doing the first one. also, I was able to just beat them with the hammer to rotate them, didn't even have to break out the torch.
used a sharp chissel to mark the end of the tube and knuckle and double checked my measurments with a set of calipers. went with 8* and plan on using 2* bushings now with about 3" of lift or so.
