Motor went last weekend. Swapping in another 302 that was in a Maverick but he thought was out of a later Bronco. From what I can see, looks like an 80 block, E0..... From what I read reverse rotation water pump and 50oz harmonic balancers were mid 80's when serpentine belts came out?
Does that seem right so I can swap my 28oz balancer over? Motor didn't have balancer or water pump

Pretty sure rotation is determined by the belt setup. Just make sure whatever belt system you use has the pump rotating in the correct direction and you're good.

This swap is a bit of a pain I'm learning. Why so many differences in the 302's.
Timing chain has dipstick in front, doesn't have threads for bolt for clutch bellcrank, fuel pump may be different, Haven't checked oil pan but surfaces may be different. Ugggh. I'm sure I forgot a few things

Whatever vintage of 302/5.0 the balance is the only concern if you keep the intake, exhaust, oil pan, and the front dress from the EB V8. There is a go around for the clutch linkage. 50 oz. imbalance dampers and fly wheel/flex plates are easy to find. Simply put you have most of the needed parts.

Here's what I plan on putting in, looks like an 80 block, pretty sure wasn't serpentine.
Dipstick tube looks like was in front.
So. If I put early bronco water pump, timing chain cover on, and I take it should swap my early bronco oil pan on am I good? Will pull oil pan of swap engine today. Read if I see look at crank, m2 or not, can tell for sure if 28oz or 50 0z?
Also, any tricks for getting balancer off now that out of engine. Have tonpull clutch off, can I wedge flywheel with something to stop from turning, motor is out.
Pics are of motor I picked (80) that is going in

That is a standard (clockwise) rotation timing cover. The way you can tell is the water ports are kind of shaped like "bullets". Rotation is in the "direction"
of the "bullets". No way of telling what the balance is by that, though.

The front sump early pan won't work in an EB. Keep the Bronco pan and oil pump pick up. Also the timing cover used with the front sump pans has a dip stick hole that needs to be plugged.

255? t's a 302

The 255 block has casting number E0SE-A2E
The E0AE-D3C you have was the 302 block used 80-84

The 255 is basically a 302 with reduced bore. A visual difference is the 255 intake manifold has individual runners with a sheet metal valley pan. The heads have small valves closer together to fit the small bore and don't breath well. Low power with little performance improvement potential.

The only performance potential they were after is more MPGs and unfortunately they didn't get that either.

Will the fuel pump be the same as ours(66-77)

It should bolt up. Whether or not there's a fuel pump eccentric under that timing cover...maybe you can peek into the fuel pump
mounting hole with a bright flashlight and see if you can see one.

Can you tell from pic is eccentric. I had never heard of an eccentric pump before until my buddy mentioned it to me. Still learning about all the little differences in these motors

That off-center mounted round piece you're pointing to is the fuel pump eccentric.
