I'm gonna throw in another wrench, in SC there's County Property Taxes, based on the value of the vehicle, which is based on the year of the vehicle and I think they use KBB or some source like that??? County property tax on my 74', completely restored, is $17.40???

Let’s hope they never change the basis. Here the ‘74 is valued at $800.00 and the annual tax is $5.56. But fuel in SC is cheaper than ours!

Hey Mary. Gaston county valued my 74 and 78 at 13k. At first they had them at 39k. I balked at that number and had them revise the valuation. They’re using some book to pull values from here now. Gone are the 100 values here.

That’s scary......I just renewed my tag this month. So the previous values were under $1K; when did the increase hit? Bet it’s all standardized before long across the counties.

Yeah I was shocked. They also bumped the property tax on my boat as well. The house luckily hasn’t changed, yet.

The article appears to primarily a new law here in AZ. Classic Cars Journal is now owned by Barrett Jackson so I can see why they might put out an article like this .

That is great news for Arizona. Hopefully it makes its way to Nevada. I inquired about a new frame for my '67 and the Nevada DMV told me that I would be required to register my '67 as a new vehicle, and the fees would be based off of the value at that time. I would lose the ability to register it as a 1967 vehicle and have to start smogging it just like a new purchase. 1968 is the cut-off in Nevada for smog requirements. Registration would be more expensive each year also since the value would be based off the restored value instead of the original MSRP. Since I didn't need a new frame I abandoned the idea, I was looking for a shortcut on my build, but too many drawbacks.

Probably not "all". The people that have a rusted out chassis beyond repair and need a new one may look at this differently. Seems there are compelling arguments on both sides of the issue as is usually the case in life.

Yeah thats kinda what we are talking about.. I totally understand an owner doing this just trying to get his ride back into shape. If this owner already has the truck titled and registered in his name, I see no reason why it would ever come into question. That is until he sells it to an out of state buyer and that buyer can't register it. Very different than a restoration business building with all new parts where nothing is original.
