Nylon Fuel Line on the Engine. Good or Bad Idea?

OK. So I'm getting around to widening my Exploder fuel rails to fit the 5.8 GT40 lower. Everyone else has just cut fuel injection rated hose, and used fuel injection hose clamps. But, now I'm looking at the stock Ford lines between the rails, and it looks like just 5/16 nylon fuel line covered with some type rubber coating (abrasion resistance???). I cut off the stock fuel lines this morning, and the fuel line part appears to be two thin layers of nylon line. There's no clamp or anything. The line is just pushed onto the barbs on the fuel rail.

Anyway... Just to be different, I though I might get a length of 5/16 nylon fuel line, put a couple bends in it, and slide it on the fuel rail barbs. Then I started thinking about the temperature that the fuel line starts getting soft. The install instructions on the repair kits say to just dunk the end in hot or boiling water to soften it up enough to push onto the barbs.

So, with the engine getting to 200+ degrees, does it seem like a bad idea to try to use the nylon fuel line? And if yes, how did Ford get away with it?

There are a few different types of nylon tubing with different temp handling characteristics, most of which have a max operating temp of 200 degrees. Rubber EFI rated (SAE 30R9) hose is rated to over 250 degrees.

I use marine grade hoses for everthing. the writing on the grade I use the most is: SHIELDS FIRE-ACOl USCG TYPE A1 SAE J1527/ISO 7840. Any performance marine supplier can give you a bunch of options. Try Eddie Marine, CP marine, West marine, or Palmer Power in houston.

I recall discussing this with Steve G. aka 1sicbronconut a couple of years ago, and I think I remember him saying that, those lines are replaceable and the dealer has the fuel line for it. I may be way off also, it's foggy in the back of my head.... might be worth a call to the Ford dealer in the morning though.?

Not sure on using the nylon lines but I used plain old EFI hose and EFI clamps on my Explorer fuel rail in my 351W GT-40 lower. No problems so far.
