Thanks. Yeah, seems like that would work, but kind of a pain when the dumb things are supposed to be able to talk directly to each other when you plug them in.
Seeing this got me thinking about it again too, so I just plugged the phone back in and this time it worked.
Here's the shot I took the other day:

They actually panned all over it and gave it a good presence in their opening sequence. Good shot of it from the side with the full effect of the paint and Bilstein decal on the door.
