Some pictures of the Bronco's in my past - Dad's Bronco's

My Dad sent me a few pictures of his 66 and his 70 Bronco's. I remember the 70 as I was old enough and it was a part of our family forever.

The 66 (blue one) always intrigued me as is was stock and he added the cool stripe on the front clip by himself. I guess the 66 had the bench seat and no back seat. My Dad rigged the car seat in the back somehow. And then he made the back end enclosure (in one of the pictures attached) so they could camp out of it.

The 70 (red one) is what he drove for 20+ years as his DD. I remember long hauls in that one going from Dallas to Butte Montana. He had Cherry Bomb mufflers added and that kept the rear floor nice and hot for my brother and I. I swear in the front angle picture that the guy in front of the Red Bronco is Elvis and not my Dad!

Anyway - enjoy the pix!

Yeah - he loved that thing! He now has a 2005 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon that he loves. It's easier for him to drive and he still takes it back to Colorado every year to go wheeling in the mountains.

We are still looking for pictures of my Grandpa's Bronco. He had a 66 or 67 Roadster. Can't wait to find the pictures of it.

Well - it's been a while since I updated. In that time I've Rhino Lined the interior, swapped the front seats out, por15'd the Roll Bar, painted the rear bumper, painted the front grill and installed a cheap but useful center console. I also swapped out the messed up axle u-joint and the alternator.

I finally managed to get the thing titled and licensed (with my classic 67 Kansas plate!) and so now it's legal to drive. I put the top and doors back on this weekend and will start driving it to/from work this week.

Once I get my free and clear title for the Wrangler I can get that listed so I can get more $$$ for the power steering conversion, etc... I also have a new head unit and speakers to install soon.

I'll post up some new pictures in the next few days. Can't wait to start driving "Trouble" on a regular basis.

As promised - a few pix

You'd have to look at the original images from when I first brought home "Trouble" to see the differences completely, but to point out a few of the changes:

-New Front Seats (from a Cadillac Catera)
-Removed all the tape and torn padding on the roll bar and then POR15'd the whole thing giving it a nice enamel type finish.
-Herculined the floor of the interior
-Added a cheap center console
-replaced the alternator and air cleaner
-painted the grill black to cover the dents and rust till next season
-painted the rear bumper which was completely covered in rust

At one point I had thought about changing the rear bumper to get rid of the spare tire and fuel tank (I like the look of nothing back there). No longer do I have that thought!

The fuel gauge is deadly accurate as I found out this morning. Not used to no warning lights or tones to tell me to fill up the tank! Ran out of gas right at the intersection of 107th and Lamar. Thankfully the five gallon can was there and was half full. Had enough to get moving again and ran straight to the nearest 7-11!

When I bought my 86 CJ-7 I ran out of gas on the way home (got stranded on 150 Hwy at about 10pm). I think I ran out of gas in that thing about 3-4 times before I got smart and built a box and kept a 1 gallon can of gas with me at all times after that. When I sold the CJ, I gave the can full of gas to the new owner. He called me later that day to tell me he ran out of gas on the way to the gas station! I think that jeep had some kind of "Change of Ownership" curse on it!

I just remembered I had written a blog post about that Jeep Fuel Gauge - it's a fun read.

Looks like I need to start a Bronco Blog!

Was reading the first page in your thread.. Someone asked if it had a N in the 4 th digit of vin.. U said yours is a u13 and has a F in that spot. Well I went out to my garage and looked at my vin ( I'm tryin to figure out what model I have) and it has N in the 4 th digit of vin. Does that mean my truck had a 6 cyl like yours og. Mine has a 289 that looked original to me
I'm gonna pay the 12$ and put some pics up of mine latr?

Picked me up some hard doors

Today I found a pair of hard doors off a 66. They need some work, and some parts, but I think they will do once I get everything together. I couldn't find anything more than surface rust and one little bubble. Looking for drivers side glass, a window crank and door pull handle like whats on the passenger door and a full set of hinges with mounting hardware for starts. If anyone has this stuff - please ping me.

Pix attached!

Just checking to see what's good on the bronco? Any wrenching? I'm doin a little whenever I can, sucks I haven't driven her in a month, since the throw out bearing took a ukowwhat. So I bought a c4 and have torre into it and ended up the whole gear train was rusted solid (thx po) that's why I got it for so cheap...so I told a few I ends and one of them gave me the same case filled 70's c4., now I'm back at square one, just finished cleaning the case and gears, clutches etc. in the parts washer at school, entire trans build won't cost more than 500 + shifter 180$ for art Carr .
Oh I finished the raptor liner too...
I can't wait to drive it soon w my son in back! Happy turkey day. Enjoy ,to you and yours

With this crazy weather in KC I managed to get more work done of the 67 U13 this weekend. I got the stereo and speakers about 98% installed. Man it is nice having tunes in there! I got the radiator overflow tank installed finally too. In the process of doing the stereo install I also installed my auxiliary fuse panel which will be nice for future electronic add ons. We drove it quite a bit this weekend too - enough to notice the vapor lock issue is still there despite the fuel line re-route. Gonna have to see what else I can do to fix that problem! Ideas? Anyone? Bueller?

Bessie Rides Again!

Well, about 4 months later I finally get around to working on the U13. Of course here in KC we've had a heck of a winter so that didn't help.

I've been fighting battery issues all winter and think I finally got to the bottom of things.

I can't remember when it was, but it was a rare nice Winter day a 6-8 weeks ago and I wanted to drive the Bronco around a bit. I attached the old battery charger a couple of days ahead of time so I could get the beast to turn over. When I went out to start it up, no luck - deader than a door nail! Well, I rolled it out of the garage and jumped it with my Jeep. I let it idle for a while hoping to charge up the battery a bit before my ride.

Well, I started out and was heading down Metcalf towards where I work. I was at about 115th street when I stalled out. I was on a slight uphill grade, and I had no juice to even get off the road. Well, even though it was a Saturday it was super busy! I got out, slipped the Bronco into neutral, and proceeded to push the Bronco to the shoulder. That is when I realized there was no shoulder, only a turn lane. Well, I kept pushing (thankfully I'm pretty strong) and then a good guy jumped out of his truck and helped me get the Bronco around the corner. We proceeded to jump start it again. At this point I decided to go straight to Advance which was less than a mile away. I got there, and one of the tech's came out to test my battery. It tested fine (although nearly dead of course). Then the tech decided to test the alternator. He said "well, there's your problem - that alternator is no good"! I then said, "really? I bought it from you guys 2 months ago!"

Well, I ran home (thankfully I made it no trouble) and tore out the alternator, and decided to replace the coil too. I ran back up to Advance and warranty swapped the alternator and bought a new coil. It was an easy job and I back up and running in no time.

Fast forward to about a month ago. I knew we had a nasty snow storm on the way and decided to move the Bronco to the parking garage at work so I could get my Jeep in the garage at home. I went to start it up, and low and behold the battery was dead again. So I plugged in the charger again. Well, 2 hours later and I still had no start up juice. Out come the jumper cables and boom, Bronco starts and I'm off to work. I get the Bronco parked and leave it there for a few days. I go out and move the Bronco every few days over the course of the next 2 weeks so I don't get in trouble by the security guards. Then one day I find I have a dead battery again. I jump the Bronco with the Jeep and finally move the Bronco back to my house.

A few days ago, I notice the battery is dead again. I knew our weather was going to be really nice this weekend so I really wanted to get Bessie out for a little while. Thankfully I'd talked to my dad about the battery issues and he asks if I know for sure that the battery charger is actually working. I say, well I think so, how do I tell? He says the easiest way is to touch the positive and negative clamps together quickly while it's plugged in to see if there are sparks. So I decide to try it out. I plug it in and proceed to psych my self up to test the thing out. It took a few minutes to work up my courage (I hate electricity) and once I do it, I realize that the charger I've been using for months is totally not working! So yesterday I ran to Harbor Freight and bought a new charger. I hooked it up and immediately saw activity on the gauge and new I had a winner.

Today after Easter Dinner I got time to work on the Bronco. I was able to fire it right up. Then I pulled it out of the garage, and proceeded to install a battery disconnect (since it only gets driven occasionally). I also had to replace the brake light switch, which went pretty good. Then I replaced the voltage regulator (I think most everything has been replaced now). The right rear tire has a slow leak so I topped it off and then I was off for a nice Sunday drive!
