So one of the new things I want to do to Bessie is I want to make her hood scoop operational. The problem is there is a hole in the fiberglass where one of the PO's put down the windshield and the hold down bracket punched a hole in the top of the scoop. I think this thing is fiberglass. Anyone have tips or resources on how to repair this thing?

Well, it's been a while since I posted here.

I didn't do much over the winter but we started summer break off with a 2 week "Stay-cation" so I had plans to try to work out the issue that was causing Bessie to die on me after 3 miles or so of driving.

Thanks to this forum, someone suggested I might be having issues with the Resistor that is inline between the coil and distributor. I half expected there to not even be one, and had no idea what it looked like. Well, anticipating either adding one or replacing one, I ordered one from the parts store. Once I got it, I popped the hood and realized that Bessie did indeed have one already.

I decided that maybe it was time to replace it with the new one so I tore in to the removal of the old one. While removing the old on I realized that a wire was broken off of it. This got me a little excited as I thought maybe this would explain why Bessie no longer wanted to drive very far.

I fixed the broken wire and then unbolted the old resistor from the manifold. It was then that I realized that I needed to drill out the mounting hole on the new one as it was too small.

Well - being a complete idiot sometimes I grab my drill and a pair of water pump pliers (to hold the resistor) and set to drilling out the hole. I get to the point where the bit is breaking through and it locks up and the whole part is stuck in place and spinning on the tip of the bit. I use my hand (vs. the pliers) to try to twist the resistor off the bit and at this point I burn the living crap out of my finger tip as the metal is very hot! This of course causes me to drop the resistor on the driveway, and for those of you who don't know - a resistor is made out of porcelain and so it broke into about 10 pieces on impact! So I'm pissed and my finger tip is smoldering. I run in to the house and grab some ice cubes and sit on the front porch icing my finger. I decide to put everything back together using the original resistor since I had discovered the broken wire and hoped that was the actual problem.

The wife gets home after a bit and asks how the repair went. I sheepishly explain the events that lead up to a broken new part. She says something like "HELL NO"! "I'm not paying for a broken part - call Advance and see if they will swap it out"! I tell her that there is no way Advance would swap out something I broke. She is not a woman to take no for an answer so she calls Advance for me. She explains to the manager what happened telling them the truth. They laugh and thank her for her honesty, and then proceed to order a new part and tell her to bring in the broken one for a swap - no additional charge!

Well, we go in to Advance (I stay in the car as I feel like a complete idiot). Sure enough they swap it out! Advance is on the top of my favorite car parts stores list!

I get home, and using a VISE this time I drill out the mounting hole on the new part. I swap the resistor out and take a test drive. Things seem ok, but I'm still leery as I stalled out twice in the recent past in the middle of major intersections here in town.

Finally this weekend the wife and son want to go for Bronco rides and we end up using the Bronco all weekend long. Went about 30 miles or so including highway and had no problems. Here is to hoping it really is fixed so I can spend time on other Bronco projects now!

I got myself a damn good woman!!!

It's been quite a while since I last posted. Since then, I've added the hood scoop and made it functional. The hood was drilled for one of those scoops off of a Boss Mustang or Gran Torino. The one I had came with a nice big hole where the windshield bracket had fallen on it. On CL I found a decent replacement one for $60 so off to Belton I ran! I learned that cutting a hole in the middle of a hood is harder work than I thought! Anyways I think it looks pretty bad ass with the hood scoop. Once I pay up my fees to post photo's I will add some pictures.

In other news, out of the blue the other day a guy contacted me after seeing my Bronco on the U13 Registry site. He wants to buy it. I sent him pictures and video and when the time came to talk price I'll be honest, I quoted him a high one, cuz truthfully I don't want to sell it! If he is crazy enough to pay me what I'm asking then I'll be looking for another one to rescue, but maybe I won't have to worry about it. There are several in the KC area for sale for considerably less money - unless he of course wants a 67 U13. Then I might have the only one close to him. We shall see!

Last picture of Bessie and I. She is headed to a new owner who will restore her to her original glory. It turns out she is one of 700 67 U13's and who knows how many of those are left out there. I look forward to a new search for another Bronco, but this time I plan to look for one with PS/PB and maybe an auto. Something my wife could drive too. It felt weird seeing her go.

Going to Springfield, MO. Buyer lives down there and has 10 other Bronco's but he really wanted a 67 U13 to restore. He has a really sweet 66 U13 restored!

So the upside of my Bronco being sold is that the guy who bought it is very cool and has been sending me pictures as he tears it down. He is doing what I would have liked to do. So as I know you all love pictures I thought I'd share them here as he sends them.

So here Bessie was on the last day I owned her:

A few weeks later Mike (the new owner sent me this picture as the tear down had started):

Then a few weeks later came these images:

And now we are down to the frame:

It will be exciting to see her come back together!
