Hoping some one here can help me identify what I need to make a 2000 explorer 5.0 work correctly in a 66 I want to use as much of the factory engine as possible I’ll be using a 2000 4r70w as well. I pulled the engine , trans, wiring harness for the engine and transmission and the ecu. I was planing on using the factory ECM but the mess and lack of options i decided to use a terminator x max. I drove this exploder up from the salvage yard I know it runs and runs well.

The question I have is?? Do I use the terminator x max pt# 550-943 or do it need the modular kit pt# 550-1316 I was told the modular kit fits right to this engine with no issues!!

And if I knew how to attach pics I would☹️

I can't fully answer your question... I have done one Terminator X mas on an LS in a Landcruiser and I spent a great deal of time talking with Holley and sorting out all the little issues. The owner had a Chevy 4L60 behind it and he seems very happy with it once I got it done.

I have done a number of Explorer transplants with the 4R70W in Broncos and the best bang for the buck has been with the factory harness and ECU reprogramed by EFI Guy.

You talk about a lack of options... What are you planning to do? More HP, bore and stroked, or boosted and what are your driving plans for it?

I hope others will chime in...

The end goal is cam and heads. If I had a blank check would be a coyote but I don’t. But for right now I just need it running. I’m in eye ball deep in this project. I was told a modular kit works on these engine and trans and is literally plug and play. That’s what I’m hoping to find out.

I would think you would want the 550-944 kit for 98+ 4R70W. The difference would probably be the mod maybe has coil on plug and I am not sure what you plan to use.

The ford MPFI terminator X max kits are only ford as far as the injector plugs go.. everything else is a GM based sensor. TPS, Coolant Temp, IAC etc. Requires adapters to run these on the Ford intake manifolds. I believe we got our adapters from Accufab.

I would just contact Gary/EFI guy, he can accommodate most performance upgrades depending on what heads and cam you are using.
It’s the wiring harness is my issue and lack of time to go through it the the custom harness is 1000$ the ecc5 chip 490-500$ plus the software tune I’ve been watching tunerPRO vids I’m not sure I want to dive down that hole. I’m about a 100% sure I want to do this terminator x max. I was told it’s plug and play but I not a 100% when talking 2500$ you kinda want to be 100%

You are correct on the coil on plug set up. Also there is harness change on that trans. I’ve got the write up on how to change it but just get the right kit!!

My most expensive harness option is $750 plus shipping and includes the reflash. If you're building something wild that needs remote "consulting" you're still under half of that cost...I wouldn't use TunerPro on a Ford either.

I understand, that's why I am suggesting to get with EFI guy on it. When he is done it's plug and play and all FORD that you can buy at your parts store.
