So I finished up all my EFI wiring last night so I moved on to replacing the Speedo cable

Ordered a new cable (couple inches longer than stock) from BC item 22-00122 "This cable is 83" long. It threads on to the stock Bronco speedo head and plugs into a Ford VSS that you insert into the Dana 20"

I have a Ford VSS for a 95 Stang (I'm using a 95 Stang ECM) and there is no way the BC cable is going to fit the VSS. I noticed the VSS sold on the vendors sites are all "blue" and mine is not.

Did I screw up and buy the wrong parts? I've read about drilling the VSS and using stock cable but this cable is supposed to work without drilling and my stock cable is junk.

What VSS sensor do I need? Clearly not the 95 Stang.

I clearly have the WRONG sensor. The top where the speedo cable would plug in has a white plug in it that does not turn when the other end of the sensor is turned.

I'm now thinking the 95 Stang must have had an electronic speedo i.e. cableless.

It did.
Or at least I think they don't because I don't remember removing any cables the five or six times I had one out. Friend's '95 with dash issues.
Very easy to remove and replace, which is why I can only remember two big, easy to remove electrical plugs with beaucoup wires, and no cables.

Sad part, I owned a 95 GT 5 speed car. Never had reason to remove the dash/gauge cluster so I din't know. My 95 Taurus SHO had a cable as I recall......

I found one (one I tell you, it's not something the local stores have on the shelf) for a 93 GT that doesn't have the white plug and comes with a clip to hold the cable in. Going to verify it works after work tonight.

Yeah, I only had this one off because the odometer stopped working. Apparently a common problem according to the forums, but swapping was easy.
Found out though, that you can't swap one from every model. Loved the GT model, but speedo was reading incorrectly due to the different scale.
Luckily I found one with just 4k more miles on it than the car actually had, so was not too bent out of shape after all was said and done.

Good luck on the new one.

The one Advanced Auto had in stock for the 93 Stang was the exact same as the one for the 95 Stang. Has the white plug in the end and no way to attach a cable. It was BWD brand. The same part with the plug was listed for 92 Stang as well. Even the picture of the part online and in the Advanced system shows the white plug for the BWD brand.

So ordered the Dorman brand (picture correct online) for the 93 Stang and no white plug. Came with runbber O ring and cable retaining clip.

Looks like I'm good to go now.

On Frank's '75, we used the VSS & speedo cable from the same truck as the engine & trans.

.

The later speedo cable doesn't attach to the early speedo, but it stayed in-place well enough that he only had to reach under & shove it back on after a couple of years. After the 2nd time, we put a couple of zip-ties on the cable sheath to keep it from sliding back through the firewall, and I don't think he had to mess with it again.

Well i got it all hooked up lat night. Took some doing.......

The BC cable end to the VSS is fatter than stock I guess. The clip that hold the cable in the VSS wouldn't go on. So used a zip tie in place of the clip using the clip holes in the VSS. The cable is snug.....
