Windshield to window frame gap?

This dosnt look right but I don't have anything to compare it to. The driver door was missing and the passenger window frame was broken when I got the truck. It had no weatherstripping and the windshield frame was bent.

The gap looks to big between the window frame and the windshield. The alignment looks good it has an even gap all the way down. A little over 1/4 inch just seams a little excessive for that gap.

The door opening is square, the door is original Ford steel, the windshield frame is original, the door striker post, hinge post, and rockers are all original. So nothing should have moved to far out of wack.

Looking at pictures online it's hard to tell but, Everything is telling me that large of a gap is normal and the weather stripping will fill the gap. I know these trucks aren't perfect. I'm in the mock up stage and making sure everything is right before I prep for paint and body.

The best way to do it!

I would get some weatherstripping and temporarily lay it in there to see what you get. It looks too big to me too, but not by as much as we'd like it to be. The first image makes it look like the rubber is already there!

As said, these rigs were not very tight OR consistent, so even from the factory one Bronco could have 1/8" gaps and another could have 3/8" gaps! Even your front and rear vertical gaps are on the big side, but still within the factory range that I've seen. Mine are tighter, but it's not like you can "adjust" that out. Since the door openings are already parallel with the door edges, you'd have to enlarge the doors themselves to tighten that up. But again, it's not out of the ordinary to see such big gaps.

When the hard top is installed the windshield frame is pulled back slightly (which conveniently puts the hinge seal under more tension) to make the window frame-to-windshield frame gap parallel. Yours currently doesn't look parallel in the pics, but since you say it is, it's just the angle of the pic messing with the view.
But I'd definitely slip a bit of weatherstripping in there to see just how the gaps will be.

My '71 is nice and tight, while my '68 has slightly larger gaps and even some daylight showing at the base of the door window frames.

So the windshield in the pictures isn't even cause I had the bolts that keep it from flipping down out. When there tight it lines up nicely.
The door need to come up maybe a eighth of an inch more to match the body lines so that will help some as well.
Think I'll do what you recommended and get the weatherstripping and see how it looks.

Thanks

on my 1974 it came with a perfect windshield frame to door frame gap on the passengers side and a gap on the driver side 1/4 Inch too wide even with the seal in place. I have had my 1974 since 1977 with only 10,000 miles on it. I have personally seen this issue in several other Broncos too. mostly on the drivers side so it was probably a bucking jig problem when built. No easy way to fix cowl misplacement. because the error is in the lower windshield mounting channel location. since that is all tied to the A pillar which mounts the doors and fender location you cant just pull it in to location just where you want it to be. your effecting the tub from the core support to the door opening. when I repainted I decided not to fix this problem since I moved on to mounting roadster door inserts. the whole cowl area is of box structure and would have to come apart like a house of cards to fix it properly. Just not worth the effort.

Best door/window seal thread EVER!

Joke asideÂ…Â…. I'm updating all my seals using either what Slowleak used or what I used. Meaning my door/windshield gap is too big for his seals so I use my link. FurtherÂ…. Near to make your own A and B pillar to door seal. No big deal.

Thanks for the link to the other thread, I don't know why I can never find that stuff when I search. I have some weatherstripping on the way. I'll see how it fits and if I have to add the other style I will.
