Ok I'm doing a 5.0 /4r70w swap in the bronco. I took out the 351 / 435 /20 . I really dont want to put in an automatic column. I have pushed the standard column forward about 4 inches to make some room in the half cab. So I need a shifter. Looks like a floor shifter is in order. Anyone have any recommendations.

Lokar. Cable shift as the rod shift is nearly impossible to route with the confines of the floor. They make a 4R70W/AODE specific shifter.

The B&M/Hurst plastic box race car crap is overpriced tacky junk. If you are after a race car theme, Winters / Art Carr.

I like this one.
It is real narrow and can be slid in between the console and driver seat.

While not intended for automatic transmissions, we have had a few customers use our single stick cable shifters, or use one of the shifters in our multiple stick shifters for shifting an automatic transmission.

At this time the shifters are not gated and don't have a park lockout, but that is in the works.....

We will modify the transmission end of the cable at the customer's request (free), to work with an Art-Carr/Winters installation kit, allowing a bolt-up installation.

Jon, get to work on that shifter. I just put one of your twin sticks in the bronco (205 ) it worked great as always. I would be interested in this new shifter.
Thanks, I may give you a call.

Not to hijack Bax's thread. But if you get something worked out that is as controlled as a winters/Artcarr that is in a slimmer package I might be game as well. I hate the mounting width and clunkyness but love the simplistic contol operation and brute strength of my winters

I would second that point.

third.

Also would be sweet if it could work in the reverse manual configuration as winters doesn't cover this option for the 4r70w

Bandit, I will when I get off work. Its also somewhere in my EFI thread.

Bax, back to your question, even though my 4r70w is a little different than what you may run and my shifter setup has been modded I do really like the Art Carr/Winters shifter. It is a little bulky and a little clunky, especially shifting at each gear, but if used in a regular auto trans I think it would be fine and give nice, positive shifts.

OK what i did was use a locar shifter. It came with the solid rod for a linkage that I quickly learned was not going to work. So I ordered a kit to convert it to a morse cable set up. Then I ran into the shifter arm needing to be reversed to operate with the direction of the shifter. The new cable was too short and the cable needed to come in from the back and mount on the new shift arm. The new shift arm was going to be in the way of the front drive shaft. So I scrapped all that mess and put the stock shifter arm back in the trans. Took the stock shifter cable out of my donor explorer. Cut both cable mounts from the explorer. Welded the top cable mount to the top of the trans tunnel. Mounted the cable using the stock mounting parts on the cable. Now the cable goes forward from the shifter around the drivers side of the bronco passing the transfer case and looping back to the shifter arm mounted in the stock position. I adapted the stock mount to hold the cable at the trans this let me us the adjustment built into the cable. Also its out of the way. The stock explored cable is long enough for this to work. My lokar cable was way too short.
