chipped teeth on gears in tranny (pics)

I've ran several different toploaders in my truck, none were in very good shape when I put them in. If the transmission starts grinding or popping under acceleration / deceleration, then the end is near. Some gear noise is normal wear and tear, nothing to worry about. From your pictures it...

    Duffy 4-core Radiator

I've had one installed since '95, no leaks..........yet.

    Manual Steering Shaft, Bind???

I had this problem last year and it turned out to be the steering box. I thought it was the rag joint too and replace the shaft with aftermarket one, but still had the same problem. It would bind up pretty bad when turning about half way to full lock. I found a used box that seemed fairly...

    Detroit ElecTrac™

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definately give Eric a call when I need some work done. Here's a link I found that breaks down the Detroit Electrac locker.

http://www.rockcrawler.com/features/newsshorts/02september/electrac.asp

Detroit ElecTrac™

Planetbronco: Let us know your impressions of Wild West Off Road. I've got a D44 on the floor of my garage that I want to rebuild this winter and would like to find a good shop to set up the gears / locker. Too bad Eaton hasn't rolled out their electric lockers more quickly. I like thier...

    Left and Right Radius Arms?

As far as I know both sides are the same. The C caps are matched to the arm so don't swap them around. Don't know about the bolts.

    Headder Wrap

I wrapped the headers on my bronc last year to try and fix a vapor lock problem, and it did help a little. Unless you pull the headers off its a real pain in the a$$ to get the wrap to go on correctly. As far as getting more power I didn't really notice any gains. I probably wouldn't...

    toploader swap

The toploader swap is fairly stright forward. Its only a 1/2 inch longer so you don't need new drive shafts or crossmember. I've ran both the wide ratio and OD versions in the past and didn't have very good luck with them. I picked up these transmisions for less that $100 but they were in...

    exhaust smoke color

I think 74bronc is right. Grey smoke means your running too rich. You'll probably have to jet the carb down a size or two and then set the idle screws so that the engine idles as smoothly as possible.

How the heck do you take the brake drum off

An old trick for getting stuck brake drums off, at least the rear ones, is to block the front tires and jack both rear tires up. Remove the lug nuts and rims/tires and start the engine. Put the truck in gear and get the rear drums spinning then slam on the brakes so the drums stop abruptly...

    Manual Steering Box Help

After I rebuilt my manual box I adjusted it by jacking up the front so both tires were off the ground. Then I grabbed the front tires and turned them back a forth while watching the steering shaft to see how much slack there was between the two. I then tighted the top screw 1/4 turn at a time...

    How Can I Stay Cool?

I noticed my temp ran hotter once I swapped in an Auto trans. At the time I didn't know any better and put in a 2000 rpm stall converter. Its fine around town but on the trail the temp will run 20-30 degrees hotter. I've got a 4 core radiator with 160 thermostat and the biggest B&M trans...
