That's unfortunately what a lot of headers have cost and then some, for a long time now. Guess it depends on how frugal or spendiferous they think the vehicle owners are going to be. Or just how low volume they expect them to be, and still want to stay in business.
Those look pretty sweet and have a couple of design characteristics that I wish other headers had. For me I still prefer the smaller primaries though.

I remember back in about 2000 when I stopped by a shop here in Burlingame and they were about to install a set of $1200 headers on some kind of a Chrysler sedan-ish thing.
I was kind of taken aback that regular street folks had to pay that much for their regular old street cars for headers. Maybe at the time they were first to market and could price them at just about any level. Or they were just that much harder to design and manufacture.
Not to mention having to have them certified for smog compliance (If they'd done that) and such.
I only really knew what Mustang and Chevy pickup headers were going for at the time, so it was real sticker-shock.

I'd hate to even think what one-off custom headers would cost these days.

Dawson, do you have any shots of them installed on your Bronco yet?

Thanks

Yes, some pics on my garage. I was running smaller primary's on 1st build of my stroker but was building more heat than I wanted to. Since they where 15+ years old and needed replacement, clear imagine solved my heat/clearance issues.
Very satisfied!

Dawson410. - What is the exhaust bolt spacing of the clear image headers? Is it the stock 2” or the wider 3” for your AFR heads? Also, what is the header exhaust size?

Thanks

FPA coated headers for the 428fe in my 69 Cobra were $1200+ with shipping.

2000.00 all said and done, but also a lot more labore than most custom headers. 1 5/8 primaries stepped to 1 3/4 primaries then true merge collectors that merge at 2.5in and expand to 3in v band.

I installed a set of Lemon's headers on a big block Camaro. They were a work of art. $2k for the headers then once we confirmed the fit we had them coated and it was another $800.

Well I spent some time with Edelbrock tech. First person was not an EFI specialist. Second person called me back on the product. He says the system is rated at 550 hp as built. There is a 42# injector upgrade available to take it to 625 hp. He says that if depending on what cam you have you dont have around 10" vacuum the idle may be poor. Same as what FAST told me before on a self tune system. FAST recommend the user tunable system. Not getting a real warm fizzy feeling about the Pro Flo for this yet. I am planning on a solid roller cam and maybe that idle issue wont be an issue. I dont need more HP than that but dont want a system that cant handle the motor. Not sure

You just need to watch your lobe separation. You can run high lift and duration if the lobe sep is like 114 or more and still have good idle vacuum. Problem with more lobe separation is the mid range torque really suffers. I think you'll find most strokers over 400 inches usually run a 110 lobe sep. My 438 is a 110 lobe sep. And the peak torque is at 4600rpm, if it was a 114 I bet the peak torque would have been over 5000rpm for sure.

I called Clear Image Auto and he has just moved his operation. He does not have three phase power right now and cant bend a set of 1 3/4" headers right now, only 1 5/8".

I went ahead and ordered a set of Mad Dog headers.

Got my short block in and starting to put it together.
Dart SHP block
JE Forged Pistons
H Bean Rods
4340 Forged crank.
Comp Solid Roller Cam

Still deciding on induction.

Can't really compare a 1969 428 Cobra Jet header cost with a stockish Bronco header or an old one off old Chrysler sedan-ish thing...headers for Broncos have been close to the price of Mustang headers for 50 years... hard to justify close to 2-300% cost increase...maybe it's because crazy people spend 100-200+ thousand for Broncos now...

$1,000 and up for a set of headers might be what some models cost but not for a Bronco

The headers are $450 so not bad.

AFR 205 heads. Comp Cams Extreme Energy XR274R solid roller cam.

Short block together today.

$450 is right on price for a SBF in a Bronco... not specialty headers going for up to $2K and more...

build is looking like it's coming along!

If your budget can deal with the cost. Ford sells the Boss 351 built to 460. Comes with a 2 year warranty. That is the motor Chris Wilson is using in his race Bronco. Seems pretty solid with the high graphite block and Al heads. Chris' 460 replaces the 427 the he wore out.
He is a fan of Ford crate motors and just took delivery of Ford's 347 unit with included Edelbrock intake. He will have it installed in his 1971 Bronco trail rig. Same good Ford warranty.
