distributer to seat

trying to get my distributer to seat. I did all the things posted, crank the starter while applying pressure...move up and down, etc. At first the oil shaft would easliy move around now it feels wedged to one side like it is jammed....any advice?

Do I need to pull the pan?

If you pull the pan you can get your fingers on the oil shaft. That will probably give you a better idea what's going on. If it feels jammed I would remove the distributor and inspect. I just learned myself about all this here recently when I got rid of those old points and went electronic. Sit the dizzy almost flush as you mess with the oil shaft by hand, it really doesn't take much and the distributor will drop right in place.

Driveshaft probably got pulled out of the pump socket. Slip a piece of hose over the end of it to reposition it. A thin rod in the center hole of the hose will push the rod off.
