My understanding is they line up with the factory cooler lines. When they did the reverse flow radiator, all the did was as little as possible. The didn't swap the tanks, or the cooler. All they did was put the radiator hose fittings on the other tank and called it a day. It wasn't engineered that way, wasn't engineered to have the trans cooler on the hot side. It just got that way out of making the radiator with as little change to tooling as possible. Quickest, laziest, but still works way of doing it. It is for engine cooling, be happy they put any transmission cooler in at atll. And the ports are in the stock location, so it hooks up like stock. It is some sort of cooler, they never said the transmission cooler was optimized.
I think that's a pretty good summary right there! No serious thought given to the consequences of their actions of moving the input/output fittings on the radiator.

Or the person who said "Hey, wait a minute, that's..... " got overridden because those above him saw dollar signs. Not that I'm bitter or that it has happened to me......

That’s the thought string I have every time I see new work being done on a roadside. Especially at freeway on and off ramps.
The road construction is finished, the sign crews are done. Everyone moves on.
Next, the landscaping crew comes through with the plan.
New guy says “boss, why are we planting a tree right in front of the new direction sign?“
Boss says “shut up kid, just do your job. Don’t rock the boat!“. Or something along those lines.

I thought the same thing a few years ago when they finally finished the paving job on an unfinished roadside near my house.
Job included cutting down lots of trees, cleaning the roadside, getting rid of all the weeds, and even included fixing the common backyard fence of everybody lining the road.
I’ll neat and tidy.
Then along comes to landscaping crew and plants 40 trees.
Directly underneath the communication and power lines! 😩🙄🤔

Anyone around here knows, stuff grows! Those trees that are only about five years old are already up into the communication lines. Another 10 years, if they don’t cut them down beforehand, they’ll be in the power lines and causing no end of trouble.
Well, these days, if any trouble with Internet occurs, the complaints will really go up. But they still won’t cut the trees down I bet.
They’ll wait, trim them around the lines, wait some more trim them along the lines, wait some more trim them around the lines. Until 50 years from now, they’ll spend 50 times as much to cut them down.
After having spent all that time, money, and water, keeping them alive.
And then I bet another crew comes right behind them in plants another row of trees!
Cynical? Me? Nah…

30 years ago they were building a new school that backed up to my parent's back yard. I saw the guy out there putting the flags in the ground for the trees. He had a paper plan in his hand and eyeballing where they will go. After he left I went out and put some thought into them. Didn't completely change anything. Just moved a few things a few feet here and there. Let me line that tree up with the security light that will be shining in the window type of fixes. That's how they planted them. Every time I visited I looked out the window and I could see my little adjustments. Nobody else would ever care. But I did. Then they sold the house.
