My floor jack died. I don't trust most harbor freight tools but are the floor jacks decent? How about the aluminum ones to save my aging back?

I have a 1.5 ton aluminum one for about 9 years, it has limits, but overall happy with it. Light weight and easy to take the handle off for loading. Front roller and small rear wheels sometimes don't play well trying to move a Bronco, but the up and down is fine. I have a 2.5 ton for the bigger rigs I work on.

Yes, the jacks are good.
The aluminum ones are not that light, nor lift very high. I have one of the old ones from when an aluminum jack really was an aluminum jack. today they are a hybrid. Aluminum for the showy bits, and a good bit of steel (and weight) inside.

What I, and most of my friends do now is use the 100# high lift long reach HF jack. And we never pick it up, just drag it around.

How portable do you need?

No problems with my 3 ton Daytona jack, I've had it for 5 years without an issue. The stands are the ones that had a recall a few years ago

buying a seal kit for your leaking cylinder and rebuilding it yourself will save you money.
I know most wouldn't deal with it and just buy a new jack. if you got the time to do it, it's a simple task.

I rebuilt my father's 1950's Blackhawk floor jack. I was stunned I could still get a rebuild kit for it!
It turned out too nice I didn't want to use it, so I gave it to the next gearhead in the family, my nephew.

I have several of HF floor jacks including the daytona and works great. Had several models of their jack stands and all of them had a recall. Threw all the stands out.

I had two Hein-Warner floor jacks. Both needed to be rebuilt. The cost of a kit to rebuild one of them was more than the HF jack that replaced them. I *really* wanted to keep them, and I resisted recycling them for several years, but the cost of a rebuild never went down enough to justify it. Couldn't even sell them, got no replies at all. Not even when I made them free. That was sad.

I wouldn’t throw out any of the harbor freight Jack Stands. If you live close enough to one to take them by, see if they’ll still take them back.
That’s for any that hadn’t heard about the recall.
They only recalled certain numbers, but at some point fairly early on, near the beginning of the process, they literally included practically every previous harbor freight jackstand ever sold.
I turned in four of my own, and probably 10 or 15 of other friends stands, and we all got store credit for the full value of each one at the time. Not sale prices, not 10-year-old prices. But current prices at the time.
I’d say they handled that process pretty well.

I’ve got one of their lightweight 1.5 ton jacks Steve. Maybe I got it back when they were still mostly aluminum, but I find it quite light and easy to carry around with me.
Sometimes I lift it and carry it by the long tube jack handle, sometimes I Carry it by the convenient carry handle welded to the side.
Either way, as long as it’s strong enough to do the job for you, it’s a much easier process to move around.

I do wish the saddle were removable on this jack but other than that it's fantastic. and it also shows on sale right now if you have a membership. $190 instead of $270. Membership is only like $30 so you'd still save if you get the membership. Good if you need more stuff.

I had 2 of the Pittsburgh Jack stand’s. They weren’t the recalled model numbers/serial numbers. Took them in to HF and they swapped them out for heavier duty Daytona Jack stands no questions asked their idea said they didn’t want any of them in use just in case.
