I pulled the fuel tank, and dissected the homemade hitch contraption from the rear frame rails. It wasn't too difficult to cut through the few poor welds a bit and snap it off. This is the one area of the frame that needs some rust repair attention, but she's looking better already!

With the frame supported by the lift I removed the rear shocks and pulled the spring shackle bolts in order to drop the springs out of the way of the frame rail section that needs addressing.

Here is the culprit being tackled today, It's the passenger side rear frame rail. The body mount hole is toast and there's lots of rust and rot through on the inside and outside as well as some cracks.
Luckily the driver's side is in much better condition, that only needs the body mount hole addressed... we'll deal with that easy fix another day.

And here it is after cutting off the spring hanger. You can see that there wasn't too much metal left behind it.

After a little dissection and massaging some new metal into place....

Out with the old...

...and in with the new 😁

Looking much happier now. Next up will be welding the spring hanger back on and sprucing up the driver's side.

There's probably still water in there! Heck, just last year when it was here I had to drill drain holes in the front bumper to drain trapped water out
😄

(now where's that headlight picture??) 😉
