and what exactly is this tool? found it in a box of hand me downs I had. has a long handle, and my guess was some kind of cheap valve spring compressor, or maybe a seal puller...of which it did a pretty good job at!;D

well...the Bronco is still sitting in the same spot with the rear axle still out and apart.:( but I have manage to start tearing apart a dana 44 that I'm planning some work on.
and today I had some spare time so I decided to make an axle work stand out of some left over aluminum stock I had lying around. tried to make it as universal as possible to work with different axles, and it will clamp up to a 4" diameter tube. and the bonus is it's light weight. ;D

I think it will help motivate me too now that I don't have to do the balancing act on the floor!

was considering making it mobile...can't beat being able to roll something out of the way easily! just have to make sure the casters lock well, rolling away while trying to work on it would get old fast.

I did test it out a bit tonight though. got some long enough bolts I didnt have earlier and clamped it up. didn't budge, so that's good!

You even considered the rotating factor. Fits perfect under that bump stop mount.

I'm impressed, you gonna rent that thing out???%)%)%)

thanks! sure, but not until I'm done with it. hmmm and let's see.... I have four more broncos to do after this one%) and at the rate I move, this axle will probably still be in the stand next year!
guess I should have built an extra for rental purposes;D;D I seem to get more stuff done for the Bronco than to it anyway!

Finally! ...back at it.:) it's been months since I've worked on the Bronco, but at least I did manage to get the space around it cleaned and organized so that I can enjoy working on it again.
going to tackle the rusty floor pans next, but first going to install the new body mount bushings. went with the 1" kit from wild horses.
first removed the bumpers and the trailer hitch(thankfully the hitch bolts were frozen enough that the impact wrench snapped them instead of the bolt spinning inside the frame.)
then got lucky and seven of the eight body mount bolts came right out. the eighth probably would have too but the hex head was rotted down a bit where it sits in the floor pan. I ground what was left of the hex to fit a 7/16 socket and got it halfway out before the socket rounded the corners off. so... cut the head off and pounded the rest out the bottom. got a few more things to undo before I start jacking the body up but so far so good...

I'm finding a clean and organized garage very motivating...;D

body lift is in. wasn't too bad, four of the old mounts popped out by hand and the sawzall made quick work of the rest. did one side at a time and used a motorcycle jack/lift to lift the body from under the rocker panel, worked quite well.
also pulled the steering column and master cylinder. most likely will be swapping in a c4 trans along with power steering and brakes.

thaks Dave, will do...

the garage is still too small of course:p%)
it took a while to figure out how to squeeze everything in there but I'm pleased with how it turned out... feels really functional now.
