Well Coach it sound to me like you are picking out everything I had to say. Take it however you want. If I had not been rooting for every Bronco to finish I would not of been tuning into the race for hours at a time trying to get information on how everyone was doing. I am disappointed you and the others didn't have a positive finish. Have a safe drive home.
"Checkered flag or crash", that's what they say about desert racing.

Glad that everyone is safe! I would not be ashamed of not finishing either. We know that you're not giving up and you'll be back at it again next year too. Congratulations on getting as far as you did and have safe travels home!

In the San Diego airport killing time -- here's a few shots from race day. Start, first break (CV), electrical outage (bypass isolator and change alternator), health check at RM 80 and finally the trailer load after engine failure. Will get some more once I get thim all together...thanks much..Bax, comments weren't pointed to anyone in particular, so don't take comments from someone who just DNF'd a tough race out of context...

See ya'll..thanks again for the support!!

Scott and Team Endeavor!

Good job guys! You kept us in suspense most of the weekend. I would love to do this! I know how much work is involved! Ive seen alot of shows on TV about it, but dont think I will ever get to do it(unless I win the Lottery). It was just a fun weekend for me to check out the progress. My girlfriend kept getting mad at me because I had to see what ya guys was doing! LOL I hope next year you will be back and we can watch you guys make it all the way!

Scott -

Sounds like y'all had a good time. Bummer the racer didn't make it, I really think that this is the best it's ever been. On for next year?

It was a great adventure, despite falling short of the goal. The team was the best we've had, and overcame issues that would have put us out in previous years. Our logistics were good, our prep was good and the racer was good. We do carry a spare front and rear drive shaft. However, to get additional droop this year we went with a 3 CV shaft and of course it was the one piece we "didn't" have on-board because High Angle couldn't get it to us in time. Not their issue, ours because we waited to long to realize we didn't have it.

Jason, it was without question the best it's ever been. It's finally a "real" race Bronco, and it will get us across the finish line. Too early to talk about next year at this point, but John and I sat next together on the flight home and we were drawing out the plans and capturing the lessons learned "just in case" we decide to return for another run! ;)

Well Done! Just getting to the starting line is a hell of an accomplishment and an adventure of a lifetime. Not to mention doing it more than once. Of course we wanted to cheer about you finishing - but all the same I salute you and your team on a grand effort!

Sorry to hear you did not finish. Saw you guys at tech, quickly said hi and kept moving as my team was pushing bike to inspection.

We had an awesome race for our motorcycle team. No major issues, changed rear tire and installed dual HIDs at mile 420, adjusted front brakes at 490, had rider endo down Simpson's grade twice and rider go down in silt a few times in Uruapan section but was able to scrape out what we thought was a last minute win in the last 40 miles. At finish we finished 1st in Sportsman Under Motorcycle team, first to finish line at approx. 4:20AM and second place rider, 216X, came in 6 mins later. Unofficial posted results showed us with the win and we were so excited as our team has not won a race yet but have been so close. Did phone calls in to family/friends saturday and then Sunday AM we go to awards ceremony only to find we got second with less than 2 mins separating us. Looks like we may have gotten a small speeding penalty on a hwy section. Anyhow we were really let down and quietly ate breakfast but eventually cheered up by the time we rec'd awards. Photo opps with the Tecate/Coke girls were fun too!

I cant open any of these pics. Can anyone else?
Been up for 39 hrs, it was a rough night so I'll copy and paste what I put up over at the other site. Heading to bed, I have about a 15 hr drive home tomorrow.

-------
A missed corner, lot of rocks. It did a full roll and hung on some rocks that kept it from going over again. If it hadn't we would have been taking it out in parts. We spent most of the eveing extracing it. After it was up it drove to the hwy.

--------
Not a scratch on any one when it happened. A few bruises, metal cuts, muscle strains and such from the extraction.

The remote extraction was as harry one as you could ask for. That is what took all the time. The big rock that is just below and to the back of the rear tire in the second picture started it life on the uphill side on the other side rear tire of the bronco. We had to come-long, push and lever it around the back of the bronco. Then roll it off the edge to get a good safe path for the extraction. It is by far the largest rock I have ever moved by hand. It took 5 of us about 2 hrs to get it moved.

Then we started to move the rear of the bronco up and over the one it was setting on, to be in position to then get it back up the hill. Amazingly after getting it in the slot and replacing the right rear tire with the broken rim. We unhooked the winch and just kept the saftey lines hooked to it. The bronco backed up out of the slot it own power. A repositioning of the the tow rig on a strap for a bit of added pull and it came on up the hill in reverse. Not with out incident though, Russ had to hit it pretty hard on the way up and it broke the cv on the front driveline on the way up. Other than the CV, all for damage to the racer itself, is cosmetic, even the lights on top survived.

Of course we will take it clear apart now and go over every inch of it with a fine tooth comb to make sure there is no hidden damage.
--------
Here are a few more pic of the racer and the extraction. As usual no one on the team got any pictures from the start. I'll have to look for them else where.

Things going right

Here's a few fun facts from this years Baja 1000;

Overall, 56.4% of the racers who "started" the race, actually crossed the finish line. In Class 3 (our class), that number was 40%.

The winning racer, Andy McMillin, averaged 46.95 MPH in his Million $ Trophy Truck. The winner in Class 3 (our class), averaged 27.81 MPH.

I know all the cool videos show the Trophy Trucks screaming across the nice desert roads at 100+ MPH, but that's just highlight video. The bulk of the race is slow, rough, isolated and in some cases, treacherous. It's very difficult to describe the conditions once you get into the course, but I think these stats should tell you something about it..if you ever get a chance to go in any capacity, you should jump on it...it will be a night you will never forget!
