Should I slice this corner off so it has a place to drain?

Yes, I would. The factory had a very good reason for putting it there. So unless you have a hole drilled just in that area to the inside of the frame, to allow drainage that way, I would chop off the corner.

Do you still have the old mounts to compare to?

Yep. I did look at them, well what’s left. But I could tell the corners were open. I think I’m just gonna open the corner that points straight down tho.

The other corner points right at the wheel. I think that will just help it fill with junk faster

I agree and always felt that way too.
Never bothered to close up the extra hole, and I don’t live in a moist environment anyway so I wasn’t too worried.
But I always thought that the single drain would reduce the instance of water and mud intrusion. And still allow you to fire a hose up there under pressure during the summer to wash out any debris or insects that did get up there.

You could always pumch a decent sized hole in the outside surface of the bracket as well, that way you can blast water into the pocket and out the bottom drain hole as needed.

I made it just the right size for my air nozzle to fit up it and make a good seal with the rubber end to blast it out
