Both of the blocks I have are ‘74’s as well. The one that is already .030” over always ran cool.

Tim-

1- Wait till the #'s come in on your latest block - - and I know how hard it is to wait. Over 7months for me now

2- if it can go .030 or .040" then you know what to do

3- if it's no good (that one cyl didn't look great) you can go 60 over on the one you've had forever but like we talked about- you should have it sonic checked if you do.

4- sip some of that good brew you picked up yesterday :) and wait to hear about the new found block. Then go with #3 or you are looking at a different block. My 418 just sold or I'd offer it to ya.

5- none of those optios work? Look for another block. Like someone said, newer blocks at 200K miles are better than most non-metric ringed early builds at 20k miles

I can’t seem to find a machine shop around here that has a sonic tester. 🤬. I may end up having to buy one.

Call the wet side, Basin Spokane Portland.

And the other question to ask is if we schedule it can they do it when we're there and then we can haul it home so it's one trip!!

In all my builds I have never stood around and watched the shop sonic check a block. I have no idea what their equip looks like compared to something off of Amazon. Like a camera lens, does a machine shops sonic equip sweep a wider area so there's less chance of missing a spot?

Now I want to stand there and watch! :)

C'mon bud, I'd break open the safe and buy ya a beer while we're waiting! :)

Well that sucks. Sorry to hear.
Is that based on sonic checking confirming you should not go 60 over? Or were there other issues with the blocks you discovered?

That’s based on the fact that one block has rust pitting and will need at least one sleeve, and the fact that the closest shop I’ve found that does sonic testing is a few hours away.

Ha ha! Yeah, I had forgotten about the geographical aspect of getting tested you mentioned previously.
Still, I figured you had somehow managed to get all that done in four days!😉
