Well, like the last 2 yrs cams are hard to get. Least the huge cu in SBF stuff I always spec out.

I can get Isky to grind one and get it to me with 2 days b4 I leave for the sand dunes in August. Everyone else is at least 8-16 weeks out. Bullet, everyone. Comp has one that is close and I am trying to chase down a Howards in NJ that is in stock.

Dang, gotta pull the front end off the engine and then fine tune when I get back.

Oh, did I mention cam prices went up like cereal and meat at the grocery?

o_Oo_Oo_O That is just beyond belief. So much of the roller gone it chewed into the body. Could a roller have missed heat treating. Just really stinks!

I don’t think that was anything to do with lack of lubrication on the cam lobe. More like either high friction in the trunnion, or, probably the most common heard complaint with lifters these days, improper metallurgy.
That, or some other defect in manufacturing.

Are you even supposed to use assembly lube on rollers? Maybe if it’s gonna sit for a while before start up?
Seems like oil was the most recommended. But I suppose that’s just for putting together an engine that’s going to be run very soon after.

Cam lube gets wiped off early with a microscopic film left to help lube till oil is flowing everywhere.

Agree with everyone... it wasn't lack of oil or type of oil it's just wasted and I've spent the last 4 hours calling all across the country looking for a cam that will work in my typical, not stock application. :)

Thanks for agreeing that "it sucks", cause it sure does! :(

Here's a good angle t I see how much it wore!

Oh well, spent from my first post this am 1 hr ago chasing cam leads across the US.

Time suck. Time to pull the rad, pull the HB, lwr the pan enough to remove the front cover, probably 20 more connections to figure out which way they slide or queeze or which tab gets pushed to disconnect! lol

I had a Ford Motorsports roller go bad like this about 5yrs ago.

Checked on Corral, YellowB, 1 other Ford tech forum & there was a BAD batch of them that guys had posted up the same thing- rollers disintegrated on all the FMS ones.

Lucky me.

Not just strokers, mostly flat tappet but... still happens

Where did the debris go?
Did you cut the oil filter open and see how much it trapped? How do you flush the motor to make sure no metal is running in it ?

I've seen this b4 and especially in this case there's no debris larger than a sheen.. About what you'd see when wet sanding is the best example I can think of. Oil doesn't show anything in the galley or pan.

I will put a couple rare earth magnets on the pan so they can hold any microscopic pcs and chg oil 2 times.

I have them on all my gear boxes

I'll pull a rod cap but I really don't expect to see anything.

Man, that sucks! I have been hearing so many lifter horror stories over the last 6 or 7 years that I put my new build together with used lifters, picking the smoothest rolling and best looking out of about 4 sets of OEM that I just hung on to. Even the FMS are not immune to inferior metallurgy.

I know right? :(

I have a set of Morel's on my shelf for a stroker I'm putting together for a guy but dang, they are having problems too... I think you're on the right track Garry! :)

I have officially moved this thread to my old "build thread" https://classicbroncos.com/forums/t...2-floor-lower-p-s.278607/page-86#post-3556487

so I can keep track of all the stuff I do on my Bronco but when I called ISKY about grinding a custom cam we had a good discussion on lifter issues throughout the industry.

They now make a Torrington style brg roller and a bushing style roller. Both he said are great (he should, he sells em) lol

hate to say, maybe drop the lift a tenth to reduce pressure/wear?

Every cam builder I called said the same thing when I told them engine cubes first then replacement cam specs.
"That is small". Then I explained use, stall and max rpm and they agreed I was spot on with my old cam. All of the manufacturers said there are roller cam issues across the industry. Not there's tho! LOL
