I had the exact same issue with my tank that came from bronco graveyard. Complete pain for sure. My impeller was rubbing the sides of the hole when it was pushed far enough in not to leak. I filed down the impeller slightly and that fixed the problem. It didn’t take much at all to get it to work
Thanks. I figured i couldnt have been the only one. How did you file it down and did it affect the pump pressure much?

That’s a lot of work you guys have to go through and make these parts fit. I hate hearing it, but it’s not uncommon anymore.
You’d think these plastic parts would be pretty simple, but they don’t seem to be.

I agree .. i;d chalkit up as a defect and try another ,,,,,,,,being a dorman product , dennis carpenter?? {actually haven't had one in my hand]] World Pac no label but is slighly different then the dorman one,, Fit and function can be hit or miss ,, ,, My reserviour was from a customers 93 f250, the black top was discolored and one of the mounting tabs was broken,, , the dorman replacment worked out fine in this case ,, and his became mine ,, both just installed pump bottomed out and no issues ,, If I recall in the past maybe aftermarket pumps would be slighly larger in the outside diameter and not install in the reservior as an ford replacment would just work and no fiddling around but this was probably 20+ yeasrs ago...

Some good points. My tank was a Dennis Carpenter with a Ford pump. Everything fit well once I figured out what I was doing wrong. But in the end Dennis Carpenter is still an aftermarket manufacturer and I do not doubt that an aftermarket part might have slightly off sized parts on it.

I just used a metal file I have and filed down the edge all around. My impeller was square so I just filed the corners off. I didn’t notice any difference with the pressure from the pump.

It was a pain because I didn’t want to file too much off. I filed a little and tested it, probably took 4-5 attempts before it worked.

Thanks guys. I finally got it working. It had alot of flashing in the bottom that neede cleaning and i used rojos trick on the impellar. I think that was the main issue. The way i did it was straight wire the motor with the impellar on it and touch it down on my file. I had to take about .075 off the whole diameter be fore it would clear. I hope it will still pump enough! Lol

I had to put a hack job on the inlet screen to get water in there. It looks like crap. Im not real happy about that but it will pass water now.

On to the next headache now!
Thanks again for all yalls help

Sweet. I actually wired mine backwards when I installed mine. Lots of bubbles in the tank. Haha.
