EFI fuel line

I am sick of these rubber lines that the po ran from the fuel pump to the fuel rail (96 mustang) splitting. from the quick glance it looks like there is just a hose clamp on the inlet to the fuel rail.%) I know hard lines would be the best but would like to be a little flexible.
Braided fuel line?
outlet of fuel pump thread size? pretty much a standard hp efi pump (external on frame rail)
this one is the one that has me confused. what should the connection be at the fuel rail? and how should it be connected to it?

Barrier fuel hose. Still rubber, but thicker with an impermeable barrier lining. Not cheap stuff though. Still user/field serviceable without special fittings.

Cheap braided hose is still cheap hose, you just can't see how crappy it is getting because it has a fancy cover on it.

That varies a bit from pump brand/model but most of them are 10mm x 1.0 threads. A few are 12mm x 1.5.

What about nylon plastic fuel line. I ran that and put it inside rubber hose to protect it
Easy to use and inexpensive

Use 3/8's metal brake line from the parts store between the fuel pump and the engine bay, then buy the proper flexible fuel line you should only need 3-4' max and the whole system will be fairly inexpensive.

What kind of connector could you use for EFI psi ?

I ran SS braided PTFE "Teflon" lined hoses from the HP pump connecting to hard lines (bent them myself) running the length of the frame them back to SS braided PTFE to fuel rail.

http://www.anfittingsdirect.com/ has good pricing and lots of fitting options. I got y hard lines from Summit or maybe Jegs. Came in a coil.

You need a special flaring tool for AN fittings to hard lines.

Just use AN tube adapters for the junction from the hard line to the hose. Easy, leak free and permanent.

Another question....
As far as the Presure and Return can they be the same size ? The fuel rail has two different sizes for Presure and return or is it best to keep what Ford did ?

I used the original sized fitting so they fit the fuel rail but did all hard and SSB lines in 3/8th. Supply and return.

Pressure and return can be the same size. Often the fittings are different sizes to prevent someone from swapping the lines around. It won't run with the lines swapped. Doing what they can to idiot proof the assembely line and the technicians at the dealers.

Tim:

Does your employer use any Gates or similar type barrier hoses? Or is it all hard lines or pride-braided?

I have been running parker push lock hose for about 8 years. It has worked well for me. I slipped it over factory connectors without hose clamps. It is hard to get in there but have never had one problem out of it. I thank its rated for 250 psi

I used Nylon tubing with Push-to-Connect "Wash-down" tube fittings for the main supply and return runs, with EFI rated "Emissions Barrier" hose on Push-lock/Barb-tite type hose ends for the flex sections (like jumping from frame to engine). In AN fittings -5 (5/16") is nearly a unicorn. On a previous build I reversed the gender of the -6AN/JIC hose ends between the supply & the return and that was a real pain to set up. So this time instead of using different sizes or reversed gender I color-coded the supply tubing and AN fittings blue and the return tubing and AN fittings black. Like this:

I pulled a steel line from a 2000 explorer and they worked great after a few bends we added. I have the 5.0 from the explorer and am using the explore fuel pump and sending unit. all works great,

I put a slight flare on the metal lines and double up on efi fuel line clamps (the ones without the holes in them). I've used 3/8"s feed and 5/16"s return but frankly 3/8"s on both sides would be fine. I've done several systems this way and I've never had an issue with leaks.
