I have 2 friends that have the HF General boxes. I have been impressed with both of them. Heavy construction and good roller drawers. I have a Snap-on box that I bought used. But if I buy a new one it will be a HF General.

I saw one in an EB one time. The guy was using it for a mud runner. He really had to hack up the firewall to get it in. I thought 390s, 406s, 427s, 429s, and 460s were all FE blocks and pretty much the same size.

Most likely your drums are worn and the adjusters have expanded to the point that the shoes are in the groove and holding the drums on. Can you spray some rust penetrating oil in the adjuster hole and free up the adjusters then back them off?
