Here's something most guys say can't be done with Early Broncos. 5 days on the trailer with 2 1/2days of running the Rubicon and check out that trailer decking for..... drips- none. I hate oil leaks. :)

Rubicon was fun- always has been. Lars had to remind me of when I was there the last 2 times. lol Whew, glad I have friends that can still remember stuff! lol

Had a bear visit the first night above Ice House at the campground. I brought a perimeter alarm and set it on a picnic table so chipmunks or whatever wouldn't set it off. Rained HARD that night but in between flashfloods the alarm went off 2 times. I whipped out my 1/2 mile searchlght to spot a new friend between the table and tent but nothing. Pretty large torn up marks in the dirt/needles tho in the am.

Carnage was minimal for our group. Strg box bolts and one of the cast holes on the box was broken. One guy leaked 20 gal of gas on day one & we were syphoning. Lucky his non-efi rated hose didn't split (again) and spray fuel under the hood. I was a little worried with a regular hose clamp (non-efi) holding it on but all was well. My local buddy has a spline or tooth in his tcase making a pretty good noise but we were all fine. Everybody chipped in to help, great group of guys for sure!

I was pleased as mine didn't have any issues. Nice since everything on it has been built by me. More gratfifying than just driving a new rig thru for sure imo anyway.

Fun trip, cleared up and we averaged 11.1mpg in the F150 towing. Must have crested 5,000ft at least 6 times going down and 6 more coming back. Coyote loves running at 4500 or else you're doing 25 mph up any hill. Not a stroker by any means.

Here's a couple more pics. I think the hardest part of the trail was not having good ice cream for 4 days! :)

Well, with a few thousand miles on my new 464 build I'm up to over 9mpg in TOWN (2x now).

Sure beats the stock '77, 302 engine I ran for a year that never got above 10mpg until I got so frustrated I found and swapped in an HP289 and raised some *(%^#@ :) for a couple years with it (bought stock in 28 spline axles back then also).

9mpg in town and 600 hp... or 10 mpg on highway and 135hp with a 1977 engine (I ran that 302 back in '86).... hmmm, tough choice here! lol

Why the pic? Gotta have a pic!

I found this pic circa SOB 9. Tom Dummers was spotting and he just said "keep on coming, keep on coming"... aaugh!! My front tire was literally 4' from touching the ground. Glad I crawled out to see if I was going to survive unscathed or not..

Because you needed another project?
This, btw, is the pot calling the kettle.....
LOL
I think you are 100% correct TS! :)

I was thinking this am that same thing. Putting together a Snowbike. Went to Spokane and looked at all the new $7K dollar ones (dang!!) and just kept reminding myself I'll have fun with my old used one... lol Have adapters and a fit kit to make to it so it will fit my 450.
My '68 Bronco "needs" an updated Holley TermX so I can just MOVE ON (whew) and then axle shortening for a buddy, two sleds in the shop,... oh, and Shorty is patiently waiting for me to help her get to the point I can at least roll her around the shop on her own wheels- who needs a floor!! lol
Yeah, I'm making a list of things I need to do on the F550 to make it so it will be useable and enjoyable. :)

I'm of the firm opinion that TR's shouldn't be projects themselves. Not to say that projects don't get done to them, just that the whole isn't a project. Some of those things I, GASP!!!!, hire out. I'm fortunate that I have come to know the local 4x4 shop owner and go racing with him now and then. I trust him. He works on all client's vehicles like his family is going to be in them, seems like that's a rare thing these days.

Anyways, envious of the utility bed, and NOT envious of the utility bed at the same time. Oh the storage! Oh the carp that will find it's way into that storage! Above said shop owner has a utility bed on his pick-up. He keeps the whole right side set up for camping. All of the gear that would go camping lives in that side more or less permanently. Uses the long door above the rear tire as his cooking surface. Left side has tools and who knows what else.
