Are you sure you have a 3.8 sensor and not one from a 3.0?

Here's a shot of mine in the mock-up stage:

I pulled it last year so don't remember but am fairly certain it was. Going to head back to junkyard when I get back in country next week and compare.

Does anyone have the cast number from the 3.8 cam synchronizer? I keep pulling from 3.8 and they all seem too short.

I have F6TE-12131-CA.

There is a longer oil pump drive shaft. I think the part number is in this thread. If not I can dig it up from a rock auto order I placed

I have the longer shaft. I may be wrong, but i believe the lower part of the synchronizer is supposed to engage a boss in the engine to help support the lower end of the unit.

If other folks are running this setup without issue, fine. I just want to be thoroughly cautious.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember seein anything but the top of the oil pump shaft when I installed mine. Haven't cranked yet and won't for a while so I can't vouch for effectiveness. Engine builder didn't question and reported good drive gear to cam engagement based on collar length.

Here is what I put in mine.

It ended up being part number DA-2069 or F6TZ12A362-CB on the box. The housing has a number of F6TE-12131-DA cast into it, I was told the casting number is only a production casting number and not an actual synchronizer part number.

I have been told that the ford distributors have an extra long shaft just so that it is easier to stab in and get the oil pump shaft to line up. Supposedly you do not need the shaft to be that long.

Mine went together and seemed to engage good. Its been in there for a couple thousand miles so far without any trouble.

It's fine. That boss is just under the gear. I think the longer driveshaft is from a 351C.
